Beware the Boa
JDub

Nice shoe. Decent quality for the price. The Boa makes it nice and snug with no noticeable pressure points and easy to adjust while riding. Unfortunately, my left Boa wire broke after only 4 rides. I was not doing anything radical....maybe snagged it on a branch... can't be sure. I was only a mile from the trailhead but this was not safe. Boa replaced it by mail free of charge but its not really practical to carry a spare of shoes on your bike so......

Bad design for wide feet
Loblaw

I got the wide version of this shoe. It seemed like a medium width, not much room in the toebox. Since the Boa is in the middle of the shoe, trying to tighten it snug near the ankle really puts the squeeze on the toes. Worse, the Boa doesn't open up as much as regular fasteners, making it very difficult to get the shoe on and off the foot. Bring back the old ratchet straps!

Great for spin bike, gravel, and city biking too!

I was originally looking for spd clip on shoes for my new schwinn ic4 indoor bike i bought 4 winter training, i took chance with these shoes labeled mountain bike shoes, im so glad i did!! The boa system makes it fit like a glove, super comfy, lightweight, work great with indoor bike! Cant wait for spring to try them on my regular bike. I dont do any mountain biking yet these will be great for my gravel and paved greenway biking where u do some walking on breaks, my point is dont worry about mtn biking label :)

Decent shoes for the price. Loose fit tho

Decent shoes for the price. I've been riding these for about 3 years. The problem with one Boa dial is that it tights the front of the shoe more than the year. So, one must tighten more on the trail once the Boa laces have shifted around. I liked My Diadoras with 2 Boa button as the fit was more adjustable. Just today I hit a rocky hill on the side of a very narrow single track and somehow the lace was severed. Fortunately Boa has an excellent warranty and they supposedly are going to send me a replacement lace. Would I get these shoes again? Probably not. Again, good price point, and they've held up. But the fit is a bit loose on my average width size 10 feet. My next MTB shoes will probably be a model with 2 Boa dials instead of just one.

Hard edge cuts into front of ankle

The top flap overrides the padded lower flap when tightened, causing the hard edge of the upper flap to cut into the tendon on the front of my ankle. I have narrow low-volume feet, which may have contributed to this problem. Also, the BOA setup doesn't allow one to vary how much each portion of the top is tightened, causing the shoe to be overly tight around the ankle while still being too loose around the midsection and toes. I ended up returning these and replacing them with the XC1 shoes, which don't seem to have this problem, and also allow me to tighten each portion of the top independently for a more custom fit. Too bad, as I would have preferred the BOA setup since Velcro usually wears out before the shoes do.

Light, stiff, comfortable,

I’ve been using these shoes on my gravel bike for about 5 months now, and really like them. They’re light and relatively stiff. They have a low stack height for a more natural feel on the pedals. Boa dial works great, as usual. They feel like a road shoe or gravel racing shoe, but not as rigid. The only thing is, I have hammer toes, which need a taller toe box, and synthetic leather doesn’t really mold itself to them. Still, I commute to work 3x/wk on paved bike path, ~7mi. each way, and they’ve been comfortable even for me.

Looks nice, a little too tight

Shoe has a very clean look and the all black looks nice. I never rode with the shoe because the toe box was a little too tight and I knew right away this shoe wasn't for me. The BOA system is typically very good. The location of the BOA dial in the middle of this shoe didn't feel right to me. It made slipping into the shoe a little difficult. The velcro strap at the top combined with the BOA dial in the middle limited my ability to adjust the front toe box, making the shoe uncomfortable.

Poor design, uncomfortable

I’ll be returning these. On tightening the shoe the lower flap on the top slides under the upper flap allowing a hard edge to cut into the tendon on the front of my ankle. Very uncomfortable. I’ve had several pairs of Shimano MTB shoes over the years and never had to return a pair before.

tongue pinches foot

The fit on this shoe is good for my wife forefoot which is nice considering most bike shoes are narrow. After about 5 miles I noticed the tongue pinching my foot on one side. I figured they just needed to be broken in so I adjusted and kept riding. By mile 20 and after several adjustments the pain was so bad I my thoughts were on returning them. Aside from the tongue pinching, these are also rather heavy and not very stiff.
