My husband and I both own this hat and we love them. We are rarely without them when spending any length of time in the sun. I think we look a bit dorky wearing matching bucket hats, but the hat performs SO well that we don't care! It's the most lightweight hat I've ever owned. My favorite things about this hat are the adjustable toggle, the fact that it's available in multiple sizes because one size does not fit all (like most brands), it's breathable, and I like that it's a bucket style and not sticking straight out on either side of my head.
Sand Grey Sun Bucket
I have a collection of hats to protect my balding melon. The Sun Bucket could be the best all round choice for travel, hiking, fishing,... But the problem is lack of breathability. In the hot sun, even the lightest color Sand Grey starts to be so hot that I have to take it off regularly. Dear OR, please make this hat with mesh panels so that a little air can pass through to help with cooling. I would recommend this hat but not for hot weather or high exertion activities until OR adds mesh to the crown.
OR sun bucket hat
This is the second OR sun bucket hat I’ve owned. The shape of the brim increases sun protection due to the downward angle. Good quality construction.
Great Sun Hat!
This Sun Bucket Hat is a great lightweight option to keep the sun off of you on those blazing hot days. Lots of little features packed into this hat, to include it's ability to be rolled up and shoved in a pocket or day pack. Not to mention you can size it down for little ones. Works great when carrying a pack
Great fit, stays on, use the strap in back like a Marine and it stays put in a stiff breeze. Great sun protection even with a narrow brim because of the downward angle - but doesn't make you lift your chin to see what's in front of you. Best part is that you can toss your baseball cap, protect your ears from the sun, and use this full brim hat when you're backpacking - the angle of the back brim stays clear of your backpacking pack. Good Sun Protection
I was looking for hat that would provide sun protection, but not a huge brim. The brim is a good size, big enough, not too big. The brim does drop down so it feels like there is a little lost visibility, particularly on peripheral vision, but I think that's what you get with sun protection. Also, I haven't taken it it on a strenuous hike, but it seems to stay relatively cool when I have used it in strong sun.
Stylish sun (and rain!) Protection!
I was in the market for a stylish sun hat that could be worn on adventures and around town - this sun bucket has fulfilled that! I've been caught in the rain with it on adventures and was surprised at how well it held up. The different size options are great, as it allowed me to find a tight fitting one that I don't loose in the wind. Flattering, packable, durable, and functional!
Good for sailing
I use this hat for sailing in hot environments. The brim is big enough to provide sun protection on my face and neck, but small enough to allow visibility in all directions, including up the mast, and stiff enough to resist the wind. My only complaint is that it doesn't breath well. But there is a nice sweat absorbing rim that fits softly against the head on the inside.
Runs smaller than I'd anticipated
There's a drawstring with thin shockcord that would tighten the hat for those with normal sized noggins. In my case, the hat just can't be made larger (XL size). Combined with the thin bucket brim it was downright comical. I'd take a photo but I don't want to leave that image for my grandchildren. I'm going to have to reluctantly return it :(
A Friend In Hot Places!
I bought this hat at the MEC last summer and used it locally for general sun protection on hotter days. It got its real test last month when I spent five weeks in West Africa. At this time its the dry season there and anywhere on or near the coast in Senegal, The Gambia or Ghana is hot and incredibly humid. This hat soaked up the sweat admirably and although the brim became soaked and dripped continuously, the hat stayed comfortable, kept its shape and offered the protection I needed. Inland in the Sahel it was much hotter but way drier and the hat performed well and stayed dry, keeping the sun from frying my skull. When its this hot, no hat on earth can cope perfectly, especially with the excessive humidity, but this one is way better than anything I've ever worn before. You get real protection from the Sun Bucket, a great companion for serious heat. It only got four stars because I honestly believe no sun hat on earth could realistically earn five.
