Great coverage and headroom
Don’t let these other reviews scare you away. As long as you’re aware that this product is not designed to stay on your vehicle while traveling, then you’re going to be more than happy with this sunshade! It is surprisingly large when unfolded has unheard of headroom, and I’m not a short guy. Setup is easier the second time. Make sure to check in the very back for the poles, they’re strapped in with a bungee. Definitely recommend, especially when on sale!
Great Awning for our Camper Van
We have an older B250 Shorty conversion van. I didnt want to mount a full time awning onto the old van and the rack doesn't look strong enough to hold one either. This Awning goes up super fast, has been really secure in the rain and wind and has decent coverage when we need it.
Nice awning
Great coverage but does not do well in wind, setup and breakdown easy.
Mount design is not stable
The mounting design of this rack is simply two straps. They can only effectively get finger tight, so the rack wobbles all over the place, and wouldn't be safe to drive with even a short distance, let alone on a highway all summer. I'm not sure if they are anticipating we will only put this up when we want to use it or something, but I'll be returning this to get an awning that I can leave on my rack system and lock securely so that I am confident it is staying where I put it. Super disappointed in this design.
Poor quality
Surprisingly poor design from Big Agnes. The awning ripped out of the mounts on the first use with winds less than 10 knots. I’ll definitely be returning it.
Design makes little sense.
I was excited about this product. The concept of having a quick easy shelter for car camping or pit stops appealed to me. I assumed that this was designed to be permanently mounted to a roof rack and could be left up for travel, and I did not notice the caveat in the description that this is NOT intended to be left on while driving. That to me is ridiculous. Where am I going to put it? It's designed for a roof rack mount but I can't actually mount it? Anyway, I figure that I could make it work, so I set it up, and even with mild 5-10 mph winds, it was just ridiculous. Not only are there four guy wires to set up on the main area off of the car, but two smaller ones that somehow I guess are supposed to be attached to the areas near or underneath the car? This means you'd have to park on grass or dirt or use alternative anchors. Why can't those attach to the car, with magnets, or a hook on the rack or something? And the straps that "attach" the main bag to the roof rack are flimsy and hard to tighten. The result was a loose, difficult to set up, and poorly aligned covering. As I set it up, I kept asking myself "What is the benefit of attaching this to my car?" I have two other tents and sun covers that are easier to set up, cheaper, more stable, and don't need to be attached to my car. The only benefit of this would have been if it could actually remain attached to the car, but it can't. The quality of the product is good, especially the tough waterproof case. It feels like that at some stage of the design process, this was meant to live on a roof rack, but that got changed for the worse and it was shipped with ridiculous attachments. This is a disappointment.
