A Keen for thru-hikers that doesn't feel like a tank. I have been wearing Newport H2's for thousands of miles but they are heavy by today's standards (men's 9 was 15.1oz/shoe) and the sew quality has tanked in recent years (READ: they suck and don't last, expect to repair early). I can't wear the CNX's with a pack because they are too minimal and don't offer enough protection and support. Regardless, a decent lightweight off-road runner comes in at 12oz or less (think, Altra's of the world). These SOLR's come in at 11.6oz/shoe. Lighter than the H2's but beefier then the CNXs. Very comfortable, true to size, and fit a thin runner sock and/or neoprenes for when it gets cold and wet. For those who don't understand the impact of weight, or for those trying to reduce their load, work on the weight on your feet. Weight on your feet is analogous (nearly) to the MOI (moment of inertia) on a bike wheel--the reason weight on a hub is irrelevant compared to the same weight on the rim. The reason cyclists/triathletes, and thru-hikers [should be], more concerned about weight on their feet is because it is the equivalent of ~5x's that on your pack. I refer you to the study done by the military decades ago and others more recently. 1 oz off your foot is ~5oz off your pack. Do the math...1 oz X 5 oz, X ~2,112 steps per mile, equals 660 pounds--per mile! PER SHOE! Now do the math for a quarter pound on one foot. You get the idea... I only have one grip. Keen if you are listening, the slight reduction in arch support (compared to the H2) is noticed. Please add a bit more arch support (i.e. height) so that it is at least the equivalent of the H2.

*hot* sandals

Well made, fit accurate, comfortable. BUT hot. If that is possible for a pair of KEEN sandals. Uppers are made from recycled plastic. Stiff and unbreathable. Won't be wearing except maybe in the fall. Back to my old nylon webbed ones.

Excited about these, but not durable

I've had Keen Newports that have held up well in the past and I was excited to see the SOLR come out last year. Nowadays my water adventures consist of taking my dog to the Columbia River and playing fetch in the water -- hiking on sand bars, through woods, wading in knee deep water, etc... They are comfortable, dry quickly, and I thought these were the ticket! I bought my pair in August 2022, used for a couple of months, then packed away for 2023... This summer the fine diameter yellow strings across the back broke on both sandals. I continue to use, but now the heel webbing is about to wear through. I got maybe 5 months of use from these sandals

I really like them. Very comfortable. Fits well.

I had the Keen Newport Sandals for 10 years and these SOLR's fit and feel better on my flat feet. KEY to keep in mind is that they cut these 1/4 inch shorter than Newports so while I am a size 11 in all shoes, in these 11.5 fits me. Don't make the mistake I made and bought 11 to start and my toe was hitting the front and I had to return them for 11.5. Start by buying 1/2 inch size larger--I don't know why they did this? but they did. They are lined with neoprene like a wet suit so they are very comfortable barefoot. They are easy to put on and take off by loosening the bungee and just pulling back the heal strap. Your foot will slide in and out easily. They are much lighter than the Newports and much more grip from the rubber. Very light shoe. Overall fit is excellent and much better than Newports for my foot. Here are some important things to know about these shoes that also applies to Newports: 1. If you walk in salt water or a beach that has salt content--as soon as you can you must rinse these shoes in fresh water--the salt will kill them and they won't last long--it destroys the Bungee too. 2. The Bungee is not easily replaceable. I have needed a new Bungee for over 3 years for my Newports and Keen folks are very nice but they do not sell a replacement. No one does. I wasn't going to get another Keen because of this, but I did anyway because I really like the shoe. So keep this in mind. Keen has a store in the Pacific Northwest where they told me if you are in the area is the only place they will custom replace a Bungee for you. Keen says they just cannot get the distribution for the Bungee anymore to sell individually--it's frustrating. It's a major problem like having a shoe and no one sells the right laces for it. 3. Order a half-size larger for the SOLR like I said. 4. If you walk where there is sand or pebbles, they can get into the shoe and unlike slip-ons or thongs, you may have to remove the SOLR to get it out. That is because this shoe holds your foot so well in place--it will also trap debris--it's a tradeoff. I think it's worth the better fit. I would definitely try this shoes out--I think must people will really like them.

Extremely comfortable

So I tried on about 5 different pairs of water shoes. And they all either were uncomfortable or rubbed my foot in an area I knew was going to cause problems. Not these. Fit is amazing and I’m so happy with my purchase.

My Go-To-Outdoor-Adventures-Sandals

Just retired my 7+ years old Keen Sandals with the SOLR Sandals. So far I’m just working them in for my Grand Canyon river rafting and hiking adventure. So far very comfortable, durable and a good look. If it’s like my old Keens, it will withstand the water and trails.

My next decade's Keen?

These replace my decade old Newports which finally fell apart. What a great pair they were. This pair is primarily for kayaking and I like them so far. The fit is comfortable and true to size for my wide-ish feet, and they slip on easier than the Newports. They dry quickly and are lighter in the water, with good traction. I like the look too. There ever so slightly less arch support than I was used to, but I didn't buy them for daily wear. My hope is that I'll have another decade of fun in them.

Great water shoes

These are comfortable, light, quick-drying, and look great. I have worn them on hikes and forgot they where even on. They protected my feet and toes without being too heavy but still provided support. I have worn these paddleboarding and they are great for any type of water sport because they float and dry very quickly. They don't slide all over the place when wet and the footbed does not get slimy or slick. They also clean up pretty well.

Great Sandal

Despite the fact that this sandal appears stiff, it is very adaptable to the foot. Using it as a watershoe is fine (I have specific water shoes from REI as well) but the sand will get into the sandal and need to be rinsed out occassionally. It dries super fast - ready for the next adventure! I walked over three miles and had no irritations on my feet. Good arch support as well.

Great

Definitely pricier than Amazon's alternatives, but those will break in two hardcore trips. These are some of the most comfortable shoes I've had and they're all terrain for tropical climates (sand, rocks, reefs, you name it). Of course they're not completely closed, and some smaller rocks will get in. Try not to get sand in between the fabric of the shoe and your feet, because they're going to get chafed (sometimes I wear a sock). Even with it's disadvantages, this is my go-to for tour work. I'm looking for a second pair in another style.

Light, flexible, comfortable!

I've tried various types of Keen sandals and tend to find they are too stiff and heavy for my needs. The SOLR sandal is a different animal! It's so much lighter and more flexible, while still offering great toe protection. They also play nicely with my wide feet. Last summer I used them to do short runs along a riverside dirt trail, then I'd dive in and swim downstream back to my starting point. They are flexible and forgiving enough for light running (or long walks), yet also light enough that I can swim in them without feeling like an anchor is strapped to my feet. I used them so frequently last summer that I ended up buying a second pair.

Runs a little narrow

Bummer - all I can wear are Keen's due to width. Have several different pair. Looking to replace my 11.5 Rialto H2's (weren't the II's). Only issue with them was that while usable in water, they stayed a little "squishy" for a few hours afterwards. The Solr looked to be a great alternative, that would dry while wearing quickly. But, within an hour of wearing, just sitting at a desk, my little toes were screaming from the compression. They are just a bit too narrow on both feet for any length of time. Perhaps if I went to a 12 from 11.5, like some of my other Keen's, that would do it. But decided to replace with the 11.5 Rialto II H2's instead.
