These boots are a little clunky, but I quickly got used to them. I had to switch out the insoles with others to make them more comfortable. The laces are really slippery and took some maneuvering to stay tight while I laced them. I hike 5-30 miles a week on all kinds of terrain for my job. They were a solid boot for about 2 months. I stepped in a small stream and the glue around the front instantly gave way, leaving a gap between the piece protecting the toe and the rest of the boot. I returned them to REI for a refund. Unfortunately, I'm tempted to buy another pair to see if they hold up because I simply can't find any other boots that fit my foot! I have a narrow ankle and wide toe box. I normally wear size 9 in boots and that's the size that fit in this model.
I purchased 3 pairs of this product over the last 3 years for trekking in western states and Nepal. Unfortunately, all three delaminated between upper boot and soles. REI would not replace or reimburse. Very disappointed.
These boots are absolutely the most amazing hiking boots of all time. I bought them for a six day hiking trip to Norway, put about 15 miles on them before I left, and for the whole six days I raved about how amazing they were. They are incredibly comfortable- in my experience, the best part of a hike is when you get to take your shoes off at the end. I never felt that way with these boots. I literally hiked in streams for hours at a time (that's what happens when it rains in Norway) and my feet were 100% dry every time. I hiked in rain and snow and my feet were 100% toasty warm without feeling gross and sweaty. I hiked in mud and over wet rocks with ZERO loss of traction. I came down incredibly steep paths and never once felt my toes hit the front of these boots. I cannot say enough about how wonderful they are. I think I convinced all my traveling companions to go out and buy them. These are my forever boots.
