Easy to setup, and break
I bought this tarp a few months ago for my AT thru-hike and I’m now less than a week into it and this tarp has already broken on me twice. The first time happened two nights ago as I was pulling the tarp taut, and the second time happened earlier this evening as I was laying in my hammock. The problem seems to be the stitching holding the plastic rip-stop connector to the tarp as this is where it’s broken both times. I’ve managed to figure out a temporary fix, but I don’t know how long it will hold so I’m now left with a subpar product until I can get to a town and swap it out.
Best UL hammock shelter
I bought this product in an attempt to lighten my pack after buying cheap gear from amazon, and I am soooo glad I chose this shelter! It is incredibly lightweight, durable, waterproof, and requires NO KNOTS to pitch. There is still the inevitable multitude of adjustments to make sure it's covering my hammock just right, but the ease of making those adjustments is what makes this product so worth the money (along with its mere 12.3 oz weight- that's without stakes).
Great rain shelter for an ultralight setup.
Used this tarp as a stand-alone rain shelter on my last backpacking trip in Paria Canyon. Using it in this way requires you to use your trekking poles and purchase two additional stakes. Myself and a friend who were both in bug bivys were able to easily fit under the shelter, and it worked great when rain came at 4am. It definitely wouldn't protect if there was strong wind or driving rain, but worked great for our scenario. Also, I would suggest you ignore the reviews that say it is impossible to get back into the stuff sack, it is a little tight, but in my opinion, not difficult.
Huge Tarp
This is a massive tarp! It packs down small and is very lightweight. I got it to replace my ENO ProFly, which I felt was a little heavy. This is not only lighter than the ENO, but much bigger. I fit two hammocks side by side, and it kept us dry and out of the wind when a nasty cold storm overnight on my backpacking trip in early April. I like the packaging, how the included stakes are on the outside of the stuff sack, kept things very organized. The one thing I wished this tarp had was the little cord keepers for each cord. This tarp has two pockets to keep the cords for the main highline, but not for the tie downs on the corners and sides. I don't understand why they would have the pockets for some cords but not all, except to save an ounce of weight.
Nice lightweight shelter for backpacking
I bought this tarp about nine months ago and have taken it on several backpacking trips. It is light enough to carry and not cause regret if it is not needed. When it has rained it has sufficient space to shelter three back packers. I use it in addition to my tent to provide a place to sit and cook out of the rain, if it is raining. I like everything about it. I bought a second one to give as a gift. I definitely recommend this product.
Strong, light, and capable
Brought this as a backup shelter to the Gates of the Arctic and ended up needing it. It held up incredibly well and was very lightweight to carry. Love this tarp!
Awesome shelters
It’s a bit smaller than the kuhli tarp but still sane great quality and the color is more of a bright dark red but like it even better red
Temperate rainforest tested - it's a winner.
Light, well designed, easy to set up, easy to repack, no unnecessary fluff*. Not too big, but big enough for a couple fellow hikers to cook/eat/relax under. If you backpack in the Pacific Northwest, particularly the west side, a tarp is a must, and this one does the job with very little weight. *I don't use the stakes, but if you do, they are very very light - lighter than my 11 yr-old Big Agnes tent stakes, so I swapped them out!
Packable Protection
I am new to tarping and things and figured this was a great UL solution that was easy to use and assemble. To make this much easier, I tied additional rope on the ends of the shorter guylines to stake into the ground. Only the 2 main middle guylines are long enough to stake if needed. Those have little hooks to secure to itself. There are only 4 stakes so beware, they are easily bent. I also used 2 tent poles with this and it helped a little bit. Bummer though since I added rope and bought two tent poles to use with this since it isn't cheap. Pros: Ultralight Comes with ties attached Packs down super small Comes with 4/6 stakes Great for wind and rain protection Cons: Comes with only 4 stakes Varying length of ties is limiting Only 2 pouches to hold ties
Easiest tarp setup I've ever encountered.
Great UL tarp! Super intuitive setup! I'm a moderate tarp user and this tarp has a nice touch with the hardware hooks for the main guylines along the Ridgeline. It makes setup really fast. 4 stars because they could of added 2 more stakes for full weather/wind support, this tarp only comes with 4.
