Standard Harness
Comments to get to 5 stars: 1. An option for this harness with added gear loops would be nice. 2. The top tie in loop is not soft like previous models, I'm not a fan of this. 3. Tie in loops are small, hard to tie in with multiple personal anchors. 4. Waist buckle strap could be longer. 5. Waist buckle could be easier to loosen (petzel has a good one). this may get better over time as the strap wears in. 6. Vertical butt loop (for chalk bag?) does not hang down which makes it not very useful. *7. Some of the webbing, specifically the belay loop, has threads that are already separating and will very likely break as they are prominent. This doesn't give off the best quality/safety vibes.
Top loop ripped almost immediately
The top loop started to rip almost immediately after using it. Would not recommend a poor quality harness like this one.
Not just a beginner harness
I bought my first Momentum harness 20 years ago, as a teenager just starting out. While even though it’s a “beginner” harness, there’s nothing about it that says low quality. The thing served me well even after I was no longer a beginner. I used it heavily for sport climbing, canyoneering, ice, you name it. I sent it through the wringer and only retired it because you’re supposed to retire these things after 7 years just to be safe. I then upgraded to a more expensive model but now that I have kids, guess what the first harness I went to for them? The Momentum! Even though it’s a beginner harness, it works amazing and will serve the wearer well even after “moving up” in skill level.
Good Entry Level.
During hikes and backpacking trips we always end up climbing something, bouldering and rappelling something. I typically take my mountaineering harness (Petzl Altitude). It is so compact and light. It fits everywhere. But I wanted something still on the light side but more on the comfortable side. Don't get me wrong, the petzl altitude is awesome for mountaineering. But when you are climbing or anything in the middle of summer and have to hang with it for a while, it gets uncomfortable. So I ended up getting this one. It is a little more bulky than I wanted it to be but works. It is comfortable. It is a good beginner, entry level or climbing on a budget. I will recommend it more as an indoor, GYM sport climbing type of harness. Depending on how small or big it fits or how tight you cinch it. The gear loops are asymmetric and sometimes it feels awkward on lead trad climbs. Due to that asymmetry it does not get a 5 stars from me. But I will definitely recommend it as an entry level.
It is a Black Diamond harness, therefore flawless.
A recent acquisition while in the planning stage of a climbing trip in Ouray, Co. I actually have another black diamond harness that has served me faithfully for years, but alas it’s a bit of a struggle to get into these days on account of the sedentary lifestyle choices that characterized 2020 for me resulted in a bit of weight gain on my part. This new unit in size large is suiting me much better and after a weekend of putting it to the test on numerous sport routes and the Ouray Via Ferrata route I am indeed very impressed with it. Which frankly is exactly what I’ve come to expect from all black diamond climbing gear. Simply put, just buy the thing. You will not regret it.
3 Years
I am 3 years in to using this harness roughly 3 times weekly, and it has held up great. I am on the large end of the climbing spectrum at 6'7" and 240 lbs, and I routinely belay similar sized climbers. The harness has held up great, and still looks great. I am not experiencing any signs of excessive wear, and it is still comfortable and fully supportive.
Great Harness
Lightweight, affordable, and comfortable! I stepped up from a strap harness so anything could be better! I was looking at this harness and the Petzl and decided to go with this one. Either one would be great but this one was a tinny bit lighter and I liked the looks better.
Comfortable, but not symmetrical
Comfortable fit, but the gear loops and hook for the leg loops are poorly positioned, and are very asymmetrical (might depend on how tight you cinch the belt). This is fine for gym climbing, but is annoying when you want to actually use the gear loops. Also, if you are one of those people who clips their chalk to the back of the harness, the bag will be off-center.
Great, lightweight, harness
This is an excellent harness, especially for those looking to put on their harness quickly. In addition, it is very light which is useful for sport climbing.
Great harness to start with
I got into climbing a little over a year ago and bought this harness. It still treats me well today. The adjustable leg loops are one of my favorite features. Easy to tighten when you're ready to climb and easy to loosen when you're done.
