Would be 5 stars if clear lenses were included
I've been buying these glasses and their predecessors for 15 years. I love the fit, the clarity of the lenses, and the convenience of swapping out lenses for different conditions. The dark, polarized lenses are everything I need for bright conditions, but the clear lenses that were once included are no longer -- you have to buy them from Smith for an additional $30. I'm probably in the minority as someone who rides a bike at night and thus frequently needs to swap out the darks for clears, but was nonetheless disappointed to find out they were less versatile out of the box than they once were. Otherwise, great sunglasses and would highly recommend them.
Functional and durable
I like the way these look, function, and perform. But the thing that impresses me most is how they held up when I had a bad fall on the trail. I took a major spill on a mountain decent about a year ago. After a 20 foot fall tumble down the side of the trail I smashed my head into a boulder. Concussion, 7 stitches on my eyebrow and 2 days in the hospital. The upside is my Smith sunglasses remained on with not so much as a scratch. If that's not a case for extreme durability I don't know what is.
Awesome for biking
I originally got these for biking and they worked great but I found the frames to be slightly too large as they wouldn't stay in place for me, that being said, I exchanged them for the parallel 2 (non-max) in store and found that the frames are basically the same size but these were far superior in terms of eye protection. Pros: Very nice quality, great warranty, polarized gold mirror lenses look great and block light really well, I also love the ignitor lenses for overcast conditions. Very easy to swap lenses, mine came with instructions, microfiber bag, sticker, and a rigid case with a velcro lense pocket. Cons: Fog up with a face mask, lenses smudge easily (easy to clean too!) Pros: blocks winds bugs and sun all around.
Bring back the old Parallel Max
These are good, but no where near as good as the original Parallel, they are lighter, but at the cost of being flimsy and difficult to keep the lenses in and the glasses on my face. They also don’t hug my head as closely as the old Parallel max. All in all great optic quality as always, but the original Parallel max left some big shoes to fill that these don’t fit in.
OK Glasses
I have always enjoyed Smith's and had the previous Parallel glasses for the past 5 years. As a result, I expected a very positive experience with these. Unfortunately, I cannot say that. The Max is designed for large faces, which I have. These fit extremely loose behind my temple and constantly move around. The lenses pop out way too easily. I like the simplicity of removing the lenses (much better than the previous design) however, just a slight twist to the frame and the lens will pop off. This is only magnified when cleaning the lenses. The glasses are very stylish and the polarized lenses are amazing when on the river.
Love 'em!
I have the blue ones ( Crystal Mediterranean + Polarized Blue Mirror Lens) and they are great for road cycling. The polarizing does good work on bright sunshine, yet they don't darken so much that you have to take them off when going under shade trees. The are firm on my head; I don't recall ever pushing them up because sweat caused them to drop. Still they are not so tight that they leave marks or create pressure points. They are light weight, but not flimsy. I have taken a few bugs to lens and not a worry. The blue reflective lens looks a little weird for normal life, like driving, but I am considering getting a second pair for the car in a different color.
My Everything Sunglasses
These replace my previous Parallel glasses that replaced their predecessor. These are the perfect balance of protection and weight for me. The optics are crystal clear and I can wear them for long periods of time outdoors. They are just as at home in the car as they are golfing or fishing or at a vacation resort. The brown lenses are my favorite balance between bright clarity and sun glare reduction. I highly recommend them. I should note this is the second warranty replacement pair in over 10 years. Smith customer service is unbeatable. The quality was very good. I just wore them until they came apart. Which is more than I can say for some of my other glasses that just failed.
Excellent sunglasses for outdoor sports
These sunglasses are great for hiking, jogging and other casual activities. They are the ideal tint for bright days in the Intermountain West. The fit is excellent even when active. They stay on face and do not fog. I would highly recommend these sunglasses.
Fantastic sunglasses with superb optics
Comfortable, lightweight sunglasses with superb optics. The amber lenses are ideal for driving or hiking on sunny days, and the alternative lenses included in the box are ideal for driving on cloudy days. It’s worth emphasizing that the optics of these lenses are excellent. They stand out from most sunglasses I have ever used. Also, Smith offers more lenses which you can buy for these sunglasses. For example, I bought a set of grey lenses to use when scouting landscapes for photography so that I see colors more accurately. Highly recommended.
Fantastic Glasses, Blue Replacements Not Available
The sunglasses are lightweight, stay on my face, do not slip, and vent well, do not get steamed up when I am mountain biking. The clear lens provides sharp contrast with glare protection, perfect for dark forested areas or cloudy days. The blue polarized lens provide excellent sun and glare protection, sharp contrast, perfect for sunny days. My only complaint and reason for 4 star rating is the blue lens were not available for replacement when I scratched one. I ended up buying a whole new pair of glasses just to get the blue lens. I put the clear ones in my old pair and throw it in my pack so I can just swap glasses vs lens and maybe I’ll be less likely to scratch the new blue lens.
