Dyrt Ranger Review of the OOFOS OOriginal Sandal
As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I get products to test from time to time. Recently, I tested the Women’s OOriginal Sandal. The OOFOS sandals (or flip flops as I can’t help but call them) are kind of amazing. They claim to be recovery shoes. I had NO idea what that meant until I had them. Basically, these are meant to be worn after any type of high impact activity such as running, hiking or anything else that keeps you on your feet for an extended period of time. I’ve been wearing them at least every other day for months! Sometimes it's the normal running errands and cooking dinner and other days it's after a long hike. These sandals claim to float and be washing machine safe. I did actually put them in the lake, and, thankfully, they do float. I think this adds to the “perfect” checklist for any boater because who loves being out in the lake and losing their stuff!? I’ve also put them through my washing machine and they have come out the other side much better than when they went in. I have a High Efficiency set which often means “really” dirty stuff like these shoes won’t come out clean on the first wash but these look pretty good! Also, there is no degradation of the material or the structural integrity of the sandal. I can’t truly tell you what the sandals are made of… but it’s a high density foam of some sort. They are soft enough that you would want to believe they are memory foam, but they don’t hold the shape of your foot when you take them off. The shoes are very supportive and when you take them off they instantly retain their original shape. They have arch support, which for me is often a bad thing. I generally have flat feet but the arch support on these is comforting and actually worth wearing. There is a pattern on the inside of the sandal which gives you grip when your feet are wet or slippery. They also have tread on the bottom of the sandal that will prevent you from slipping in slick conditions. I've wore them around camp in the desert and the forest and have had no issues with the dirt, asphalt, pine needles, etc. (Unless you step on a thorn... those do go through the material) Overall, I have fallen in love with my OOFOS. They are great for day-to-day wear and amazing for recovery wear. The wide range of color choices means you can easily find a pair that will fit in with your style. The foam is supportive and easily beats out any general flip flop for comfort in daily wear. I’ve used them after 8 hours of standing on hard wood… I’ve used them after 8 hours at the office… I’ve used them after 4 hours of hiking… and I’ve used them just because… and all of these are amazing. If you have the option to try them on in store I strongly suggest it as I've noticed a slight size difference from pair to pair (yes, I loved them so much I got myself more!) Don't let this deter you though - I still think they are awesome enough that I'm buying at least half a dozen more to give out for Christmas gifts!
Super amazing cushion
Super amazing cushion! Awesome for recovery but also all purpose wear! The colors offered are “meh” to me, but def worth the comfort offered. My normal shoe & flip flop size is a women’s 11, but they were way too big (& sloppy) so I exchanged them for a 10 even though it’s a little less of a bumper to protect my big toe.
Best Sandals
My wife and I purchased a pair each. We used this for our mini pilgrimage to Mecca. Restrictions on attire for the mini pilgrimage allowed for open foot sandals. These helped so much because were walking about 30,000 steps a day. These sandals were so comfortable that I am wearing them all the time as much as I can.
My Favorite Flip-flops
My favorite flip-flops of all time! This is my fourth or fifth pair since 2013 when I first discovered Oofas. Great arch support and cushioning. In fact, I recently had a terribly painful case of plantar fasciitis, and my podiatrist recommends Oofas (more than one style) to put on first thing out of bed for around the house. The only recommendation I have for the manufacturer to do is to make the tread more durable. Once the tread starts to wear, the shoes become dangerously slippery if you step in liquid on a hard smooth surface. At that point, I have to buy new ones. They are expensive for flip flops, but worth it overall. I still give it a 5. True to size.
No an off road model
I guess I am an outlier, but I have one issue with these flip flops. I have traveled on uneven terrain for many years with "thongs" and these sandals are some of the worst for stability with any kind of side hill. Because they are popped out of a mold as one piece of soft squishy foam rubber, they have no real structure. As a result they are a bit like walking on a jelly fish when in the rough. On flat ground they are ok. The molded strap is super stretchy where it goes between the toes. Slide sideways on the sandal and you keep on going. I prefer a more solid ride. They are comfortable on the flats though. Back to Oluhai for me.
A little sticky
The sandal is very comfortable and has good arch support for a flip flop but the surface is getting a little sticky after I wore them for a few weeks. I thought it was my feet but after I cleaned the sandals and my feet, the stickiness remained. You felt your feet were sweaty but it was from the sandal.
Great for women with wide feet
I have very wide feet and very high arches -- when I can find side 7-4E or 7-Xwide in hikers, it's great. These are very nice for cushioning after a long day on your feet -- hiking or working. I love the arch support especially. I disagree with the recommendation to 'size down' for women. My usual non-hiking boot size is 6.5 and these *just* fit my feet. If I had sized down from the mens 5/womens 7, then the sandals would have been too short. Oofos makes a version of these thong sandals for women -- and specifically says that it's narrower than the unisex version. So if you are a woman with wide feet, my recommendation is for the original sandals and to order your usual size.
The Go To Sandals
These OOFOS Sandals definitely keep my feet happy. They’re perfect wearing anywhere for an extended period of time. Great support & keeps away plantar fasciitis. Thumbs up!
If you love your feet these are the Best!!!
Most comfortable slides I have owned. This is my third pair!
Nice pool side sandal but don't get them wet
These sandals are very comfortable and cushy on the feet. After wearing them and switching over to my old pair, the way my heel would strike the floor was very harsh. It is easy to get accustomed to just how soft they are. Beware that these are not for outside or in the wet. I have worn them outside to do some gardening work, and they are easily penetrated by anything rigid and sharp. More than once, I have had to dig out a short stick that had deeply penetrated the footbed and was waiting to penetrate my foot. The footbed is also extremely treacherous if it gets wet as it provides zero friction. Get them wet and step on something off chamber, and you will be in for a big surprise. If you can train yourself to limit their use to what was intended, you will love them. However, if you forget what you are wearing and stray into the outdoors, the performance is not anything like other sandals.
