The tent actually weighs over 4-1/2 pounds. The instructions indicated that it is intended for sun protection and protection from light rain and that it is not waterproof.
I took this tent on my 3 day trip to the Boundary Waters in May of 2018 with my Golden Retriever. The first night we had a Minnesota thunderstorm and we stayed totally dry. The next two nights were unseasonably warm and the tent still did great! Don’t let the price fool you this is a great solo tent with plenty of room.
I bought this tent for my son on a long camping trip we took over the summer. Pros: Easy to set up, held up well in high winds, plenty of space for him. A little heavy, but still comparatively light. Cons: This was a great little tent until the pole snapped. He was taking it down (normal use, no wind) and it just snapped.
The material felt cheap and heavy. I returned to REI without using.
