I didn't realize this thing was going to be quite so big. Having said that, I really like it. It looks like it can withstand being dropped, and should last for many camping trips. I also appreciate that I can now make lots of coffee, without having to own a percolator, which I've never really liked.

Stanley coffee press

This press is rugged, larger than most coffee presses, and keeps your coffee hot for hours. However, it left an insane amount of grounds in every cup. For $65, I expect minimal to zero grounds. Would not recommend.

Arrived damaged and flimsy construction

The box it arrived in was immaculate, but the coffee press had two large dents in the bottom and one on the lid. Apparently no one even gave it a cursory inspection before shipping. Now that I've seen it up close, the upper rim and spout are thin single-wall stainless steel which would probably bend easily if tipped over. Definitely not the quality I remember from old Stanley thermos products. I will be returning this and buying something else.

Not a single coffee ground in cup with Caffi filte

Ok I read the bad reviews on grounds in bottom of cup. I did some research and found the perfect solution Caffi extra large filters... not a single ground of coffee in the cup and I used my Aero Press fine grind and stirred the coffee a lot like I do with aero press for richer Foo or before steeping for 4 mins... what a great cup of coffee. These caffi filters are genius. Now we have a great camping solution!

Easy fix for fewer grounds

Does the filter on this leave much to be desired? Yes. But is there an easy fix to this? Also yes. I took a chance and got the Bodum 4.5” silicone filter online. It ended up fitting perfectly. I think a doubled up wire mesh filter would’ve helped too, I just prefer a one-piece plunger. I’m still giving this five stars because I appreciate Stanley’s consistent quality (besides the cheap filter) and I was happy to see that they make a French press big enough to accommodate both my boyfriend and my coffee consumption in the mornings. PSA: The top ring of the carafe isn’t insulated so it does get pretty hot when brewing.

Don't use it on a stove. Do not boil.

Although the durable steel construction, robust appearance, and classic Stanley design may lure you into thinking you can boil your water in this product like some other camping french presses, this is not the case. The adhesive will quickly melt/expand and in a few minutes you'll end up with an unusable product, a kitchen full of adhesive fumes, and possibly a smoke alarm. Can't speak for how well the filter/press works because before completing first use it is now an oddly tilted green paperweight. So I guess most car campers will be doing 2+ rounds of Jetboiling before making any coffee in this carafe, which was possibly engineered by the marketing department.

All Together Now: "Coarse Grinds!"

[NOTE: I'm a former Starbuck's barista. When it comes to using a French press, grind is everything. Please only use a course grind with this beautiful press, and you will always prepare a delicious pot of coffee sans grinds.] My husband and I have enjoyed camping with this press many times. It has easily poured a first round in a group of five adults and kept the second pour hot and tasty for smaller groups of 2-3. It is well-constructed, elegant, and if taken care of, can become a part of your heirloom camp collection. Happy camping, friends!

Great capacity and heat retention, lots of grounds

Bought this as a gift for my partner on his specific request. It has been great to keep our coffee warm longer (all morning, no problem)! We can pour about 4.5-5 cups of coffee from it. However, there are a lot of grounds in the coffee after just a few uses. This morning, cup 1 had a few grounds (mostly smaller grounds), none in cups 2-3, moderate amount in cup 4, and lots in cup 5. I'm talking at least 2 tbsp. of very coarsely ground coffee in my cup this morning. Based on other reviews, we learned that the filter screen and spring on this french press are not very strong, and found a replacement screen and spring from another similarly-sized french press that should arrive tomorrow. If they don't work, I'll be returning this. We've been brewing with a french press for years, so I don't think this is user error. For as much as it costs, it should keep the grounds out of my cup.

Fantastic press for large group

So I’m glad I powered through buying after reading the bad reviews. So here’s what I’ll say…yes it’s large, but that was kind of my point for buying to share the glories of coffee at camp with a larger group in the morning. The other thing I’ll say is that I use a very very coarse ground coffee with this and have had no issues with grounds coming through into my coffee I’m drinking. I’m a little bit of a collector of coffee presses and this one will go when I need something bigger, if you need something smaller I would suggest looking to the coffee gator press, but all in all I give this one 5 stars.

Disappointed

This doesn’t compare to our cheap well loved glass French press. I bought this to keep our coffee hot, more ounces, and because I look the look. Giving this 2 stars because it definitely keeps the coffee hot but… the first pour you will get tons of grounds the screen does not fit snug to the container. Then, with every pour after it leaks all over the countertop. This is really disappointing considering the brand name, the cost, and the reviews. Not worth it in my opinion.

Disappointing

I chose to ignore the negative reviews because I loved the look and size of this and so wanted it to work for camping coffee. Unfortunately, the design allows for coffee grounds to get through the edges. It’s not really a secure fit and doesn’t have the “plunge” effect that my other French presses have had. I’m going to add some extra large filters and will see if that helps. But just be warned, you’ll probably be drinking super gritty coffee with me if you buy this.
