Great Casual Sun Protection
Honeycutt
The fit is casual (loose) - sleeves are a great length - our kiddo is 6ft at 13. Teens boys smell, no way around it. Two weeks of Maui sun, this was perfection - we didn’t have any odor control issues at all. (Washed twice, air dried in under 30min) The sun protection is great - no burning, not too hot in full sun, more of a cooling effect when wearing it. The material has not snagged or pilled, we are sold. Grabbing another color for golfing, not having to apply zinc sunscreen.

Recalled due to UPF Rating

I bought this when they said it was 50 UPF. Patagonia later recalled it because the rating was wrong. Weird that REI is still selling it but without a UPF rating listed now.

Bizarre sizing

I have what I consider to be a normal "medium" shirt size build. 5'11", 165lbs.... I tried on both a Medium and Large in this shirt, hoping it would be good for running in the hot summer sun. Unfortunately I found the medium to be skin tight, even smaller than what I normally experience a size Small to be. Then the Large was REALLY big, maybe closer to an XL. I was totally swimming in it. Very disappointed because the overall quality and design is great. Sizing is just aweful. But maybe you're somewhere in between that it will be a great shirt for you.

Awesome shirt

I bought two of these hoodies for a 10 day trip to CO. 7 of those days included these 2 shirts, 50+ miles of hiking and six 14ers. Great in the morning for a little extra on my bald head and fantastic in the afternoon when the sun was beating down. No one complained about my smell so I can only assume baby wipes and these work well together. Great addition to my gear

Super soft and breathes like a champ

I picked this up recently and have taken it out on two backpacking trips in varying temperatures. On both trips, I was doing some intense climbs and between the two trips, completed 46 miles. So I feel like I've gotten some good testing out of this shirt. It is basically the only shirt I want to hike in from now on. It is super soft and comfortable, and for one of the hikes, I kept the hood up almost the entire hike for sun protection and never felt like I was going to overheat. I'm still impressed how well this breathes for a long sleeve shirt. If I had any criticism, the sleeves could be a little longer (6'0" 168lbs) for the size medium, as I rely on the sleeves for sun protection and they currently stop at my wrists while using trekking poles.

Great casual wear patagonia shirt

I'm a big fan. Super comfortable, high quality construction and material, and sharp looking. I wear it casually around the house, jogging, and to the gym. I'm 6'2", 175 lbs, and the medium fits great. I've always found patagonia's mediums fit my longer, lanky form well.

Versatile/HIGH Quality

I buy Capilene from Patagonia because I know it will last. My first long sleeve Capilene 3/4 zip lasted over 20 years (still going strong) except for the beginning of a hole on the forearm where I crashed my bike on pavement (not the shirts fault). This piece in particular is made of the same high quality material and due to its weight, it is perfect for a 4 season layering piece. The hood is an extra layer of sun protection and is almost unnoticeable when not wearing it up. I might buy a second one, not that I will need it, but just to have it in another color because I love it so much.

Survived the PCT

I bought this shirt primarily for the desert section of the Pacific Crest Trail. It kept me from getting burned, and the light material quickly wicked away any sweat. Whenever I reached a water source, I'd toss the shirt into the water and wring out the salt. After six months on the trail, the shirt still has a home in my closet. Even though it now sports a few mouse holes, the material is pleasantly worn and soft. No doubt, I'll take the same shirt on my next thru.

Essential piece of gear, one huge flaw

This shirt is everything you need it to be for sun protection. I used it climbing on long alpine multi-pitch routes and it kept me sheltered from the sun. Fits nicely under a helmet too. In this sense it served its purpose well while climbing. Whenever I wore this hoodie without a helmet on, however, I noticed one major design flaw. The main issue is that there is no rim around the hood, which is quite loose to begin with. This means that if you aren't wearing a helmet, the hood billows like a sheet whenever you are walking into a slight breeze. Anything resembling strong wind will blow the hood right off your head. I wish it had thumb loops too but this is not so much a design flaw. I'll be returning this product to purchase a sun hoodie that will stay on my head.
