Multiple use head/hair band
Light weight, beautiful print, easy to transition from headband to face covering to wrist band. I would suggest this purchase for anyone on the go that loves to look and feel good.
UPF 50 if you don’t use it
From the little paper that is attached to the packaging: “This UPF classification therefore applies to the fabric and not to the protection provided by the item's design. Clothing that covers more skin areas provides greater sun protection. Protection may become lower: 1) Where the material is in close contact with the skin; 2) If the material is stretched; 3) at the seams; 4) If the material is wet. Head: This headwear garment provides no protection against reflected or scattered ultraviolet sun radiation. Headwear with a brim width of 6 cm or more is recommended.” 2 stars because it might provide more than nothing and I like it on the bike to keep bugs out of my mouth.
a must have for crowded trails and bugs
didn't think about investing in a multifunctional headwear until recently because of the pandemic. i intended to wear this on hikes in case i was gonna pass by groups of people since everyone is out and about (please take your trash out of the trails thank you!). i ended up using it as a protection against bugs because the trail i did was filled with them (i'll take bugs over people who disrespect trails any day). it wasn't difficult to breathe through until i got to the few inclines where i had to move it so i can breathe easier but that's kind of a no brainer. i wore this around my neck when i wasn't using it as a bug shield and it didn't make me feel hot.
Reapply your sunscreen or wear two of these
I bought this mostly for sun protection throughout the day, so that I don't have to consistently apply sunblock. I have very pale skin that burns easily. I think that people who have similar skin types may want to either double up with two buffs or consistently reapply sunscreen throughout the day to avoid burns, because I wore my buff while driving all day through New Mexico and Arizona yesterday and definitely burned (I started the day with putting sunscreen on my face and only reapplied once in the afternoon). Just be careful! Great product, but not an infallible shield against UV rays.
Beautiful prints; functions well as mask
Buffs are out of stock in many stores because they are made in Spain. I think it is worth waiting for the shipments to arrive. I ordered the beautiful Aralia pattern. It is 9" wide by 20" long. Note that real Buffs are polyester and elastene. The elastene makes it stretchy to keep on your face if wearing as a mask. If you have a smaller head, you could get a "junior" size Buff that is 8" wide by 18" long. They come in attractive prints as well that are fine for adults, just a smaller size. I started wearing half and full-length Buffs before the pandemic to keep the sun off my neck. Now I use the regular and junior sizes as masks. Easy to wash in cool water with gentle fabric soap. Fast drying. You just might have to wait for your order if you pick a popular print.
I'm sold on Buffs!
I'd never used a Buff before but it seemed like a good idea, given how versatile they are. After a five day backpacking trip in Colorado I don't think I'll hike without one ever again. It protected my neck from the sun. It kept my head warm in the chilly mornings. It worked great as a sweat band. It also made a good face shield in the high, cold winds at the top of mountain passes.
Very Convertible!
I've been wearing a Buff for years when I'm on my bike. I love the comfort and versatility of being able wear it as a do rag under my helmet on sunny days, a balaclava on cold days, or a face mask for Covid-19. For Covid-19 the mask I double over the material. Even with doubling over the material the mask fails the "candle test". However, if you insert a piece of polypropylene, a coffee filter or even a paper towel/tissue it passes the candle test.
Great while running
I was looking for something that I can wear while running. When I wear it over my nose and mouth, it's breathable and not too hot. Perfect for social distance exercise.
2 for 1
I like it but I cut it in half to make 2 out of 1. It works and is more comfortable that way.
Does its job
My first buff and I now realize what I've been missing. Versatile, keeps sun off, great wind block, provided warmth when needed on face, and didn't get hot wearing when warm. Definitely recommend!
