I’m so happy with this product, I read about it in some pages, and I wasn’t sure what to expect from them. However, even though I read that they weren’t that light, I found them super light and comfortable, they hold really good on naked rock and muddy trail, I been trying them in different kind of terrain, like jungle mud, and dry sandy mountain, and the have been performing really good.
This shoe feels great and I got no blisters the first time wearing them over 40 miles. That is a plus. It's also fairly light so can easily run it in. However, the lugs wore down extremely quickly and within a month I had no more traction on the bottoms, making it difficult on many types of terrain. Now the interface between the sole and the shoe on the side is starting to separate and I will soon have a vent opening on either side. I wish there was a shoe that combining the comfort and protection of these (and lightness) with a good gripping sole that doesn't wear down
I've hiked 5 Florida Trail thruhikes with Salomon Speedcross, three of them with the Speedcross 5. Through the very wet terrain Ive hiked 4,000 miles with no blisters. They tend to last 800-900 miles.
I've owned at least 8 pair of speedcross starting with the 3s, and it really is the only shoe I wear and will continue to wear on the trail, but every single pair fails at the same point. Right at the pinky toe just above the overlay. I thought this new stretchy upper might solve this, but alas it did not.
Well, when I tried this shoes, it was a miracle. It's comfortable, I tried out another brands like Hoka and inov 8, but this shoe was so much better in quallity and protection.
The heel cup fabric had tears after just a few runs. The sole lugs wore to flat in just 4 months!

I really like how the shoes look and have received a lot of compliments. The fit works well for my feet and I really enjoy the speed laces. That being said, I bought these shoes in February and by the end of May the tread is significantly worn. I know that these are trail shoes that are intended for softer ground, but I'm surprised how soft the soles really are. I would really encourage a different shoe unless you're only using these to run on feathers.

Bought a pair in April 2020. Probably the most comfortable running shoes I have owned but within 3 months the back of the shoe has started to fall apart where my heel sits. Wife bought a pair on my recommendation in May and hers have also started to deteriorate. Disappointed as everything else about them is fantastic.

I switched to Salomon over a year ago and have never looked back. This is my second pair of Salomon’s and by far the Speedcross 5 are my favorite to date. They fit great out of the box, have tremendous support and stability on the trail and offer a ton of cushion especially on long 10+ mile days. I even love the way they look. The speed lace system works great and has become one of my favorite features. I wear these on the trail for short or long hikes and even summiting 14ers in the summer months. You cannot go wrong with Salomon but just make sure to try them on like any shoe to make sure they fit right so you love them.
Updates in the SpeedCross 5 sadly leave us narrow/ low volume feet people seeking a new line of shoes - it's a much bigger shoe! I'm sure the wider/ higher volume fit with stretchy toe box works well for most technical trail runners with normal to wide feet, but so do the majority of other shoes out there - including many other Salomon styles. I know the "squeaky wheel gets the grease," and I've seen hosts of complaints about the SpeedCross being too narrow for most, BUT most shoes are too wide for me and there are very few shoes out there for the low volume narrow fit mens foot. I've logged well over ten thousand miles on the SpeedCross 1-4 on technical trails and got an ankle injury on my first run with the 5s from my foot slopping around in the shoe (literally swimming in the toe box). I hope the 6 returns to the classic fit and that the 5 either dies or turns into a new line with a different name. I spent thousands of dollars trying shoes before I found the SpeedCross 1 over a decade ago, and both myself and my feet would prefer to not go through that search process again. Salomon, what shoe (yours or otherwise) would you recommend for those that the the SpeedCross 5 updates fail? My only positive about the shoe is that the larger lugs seem like they'll hold up better on rocky trails.
