Wore it on a hike yesterday
My GF bought me this jacket as we were on our way to hike the Sandia Mountain in Albuquerque. This jacket rolled up compact and fit nicely in my pack. Once we got up to the summit snow caps and high winds, I put on the jacket and it performed great! The temps were cold, but this jacket kept me warm, even with just a t-shirt underneath. The jacket looks really nice, the GF loves it on me. I'm between a L and XL. I got the L for a more fitted look and I'm glad I did. IF I was planning to layer, I would have got the XL. It was a hard choice on sizing, but in the end I'm happy!
Great Jacket for a loose big fit
Here's how sizings goes. I'm a Target XL, a wall mart Medium and a Patagonia XXL. This jacket is $50 on sale and thats what you get. Patagonia materials. Maybe not the exact technical jacket that you need. It's a great fit for me as a 6foot 250 guy who loves interpretive dance. People love putting their height and weight on here especially if they are the ideal high and weight. This jacket is fine, I promise i won't cry in my granola if its not perfect.
Nice but Not Perfect
The fit is very good and it’s quite warm enough for low 40s and up. But Patagonia missed the mark in two areas. They could have done a much better job with the hood. It’s much too large and floppy. There are no drawstrings to adjust it tighter when it’s on and could have been executed so much better. The other area is the lack of zipper or snap closures for the side pockets. I don’t feel confident putting my keys or other items in them for fear of falling out. Overall a nice jacket if you can live with those issues.
Almost There
Received as a gift. I wanted to keep it, but a few issues: This jacket is short and I’m 6’. Or maybe I have a longer than expected torso, but looking at the model pictures, I can see it on some of them too. The jacket stops exactly where my pants line starts when I’m standing perfectly straight. So the second I bend/lean anything, the jacket rides up and leaves my torso exposed. There’s no long option for this jacket so I had to return it. My only other issue is the hood has a pointy end. Even if the torso length wasn’t an issue, looks like a dunce cap with the hood on.
I Really Love This Hoodie
This hoodie is the jam if you accept that it is a "hoodie" and is cut fuller/baggier like a hoodie. It's not a slim fit nano puff. It goes great over a t-shirt or, due to its roomy cut, multiple layers. I just returned from exploring Germany in rainy funky weather all the way up into the German alps. It worked very well. It has good rain resistance that towel-wiped easily when getting back to my room. It is not waterproof however. It does not pack down as small as a Puff but still packs down very well.
Comfy and Warm, not water resistant
I had an LL bean puffy jacket that was wearing out so I decided to replace it with this. The fit of the jacket is good (I'm about 6', 240 pounds) - the waist isn't too tight and doesn't ride up or anything. It also looks nice. My major complaint is that it is not at all water resistant. I live in the Willamette Valley, so it rains pretty frequently. Even after 15 minutes out in a very light drizzle, I wind up pretty damp. The stitching in the diamond pattern of the jacket creates lots of pores for water to seep through, so if it's at all wet outside, you can expect getting wet too.
Low quality but great looking
The material get dirty (at least on the yellow color) very easily. It shows water spots too. This requires frequent washing which wears the jacket quickly. The cuffs are all fuzzy after 3 washes (only had a couple months ) also the quilted stitching has broken and come loose in several places. I probably have never received so many compliments on a jacket but I’m very disappointed in the quality especially for the price. Also note that the jacket does very little to keep you warm.
Not typical Patagonia quality
I bought myself this jacket as I was in the market for a mid weight, versatile, all black jacket. I have various other Patagonia jackets which are all incredibly well built and stand out above all other jackets. This one fell short. For a bomber jacket, it doesn’t hold up well below 65 degrees unless you’re wearing a base layer. The waist is a little troublesome as it keeps rising up regardless of whether I’m sitting or walking and I find myself having to regularly adjust it to keep the cold out. The styling is nice but it’s seriously wanting in other departments. Had I not ripped off the tags and discarded them then I probably would return this as I don’t think it’s indicative of what a Patagonia product should be.
Quite warm for its weight.
I wanted something to provide warmth and wind protection for when it is colder than my polartec is good for. This jacket has hit that mark directly and I am very happy with this purchase. I stood outdoors in a line for nearly an hour at about 38 degrees with a modest breeze and this jacket with a heavy buttondown underneath it kept my trunk quite warm while my legs got cold in just jeans. I am 5'8" and 195 lbs with a 34" waist and got the large online based on the website recommendations. I feel that it is a little big but on the positive side I have enough room for substantial layering if I need. We have a store in town and I happened to be near it so I popped in and they had a medium that I tried on and while it fit it was snug and would have been uncomfortable with additional layers.
Long-term review: Fantastic jacket
The good: After almost 2 years of wear, this jacket is still in almost perfect condition and as warm as ever. Realistically, this is my favorite jacket due to the comfortability, warmth, and casual fit. The meh: One thing I noticed immediately was that this jacket is not very breathable. I admit that I have a high metabolism, but I find myself drenched in sweat if I forget to take it off inside. This, however, is a good way of showing how warm it can be. Another thing that's so-so is that the waist band elastic seems to run high and has tightened over the years. It still stretches fine, but it sits just above the belt-line to give a sorta weird fit when it's zipped up.
