Bought this pack early June after researching top load lightweight day packs! Used it on 2 big trips so far, Acadia NP and Yellowstone NP. Both trips involved extensive day hikes. This pack handled all my gear that I stuffed into it! The side pockets are a little too small to hold a Nalgene bottle or similar, but it handled the more slender type water bottles like a "SMART WATER" bottle size with easy. I didn't not use the separate compartment that holds the water bladder, but did come in use to hold my flatter items. I have a long torso so the hip belt was a bit higher up for me but was still able to use it, just eased up on cinching down the shoulder straps. Overall I give this pack a 5/5 star rating.
The top really needs a zipper or toggle- this bag tends to come open on its own, especially when it is full. This happened to my a couple times with air travel-- nothing like seeing your open backpack tumble down a baggage claim. Also, the sternum strap has already detached and is lost somewhere. I had to improvise with a hydration tube on a hike last weekend. Boo!
It has most of the features needed for a great pack. Light pack.
