We take this on every trip.
It’s very well made. We use this for making fresh perked coffee and boiling water for tea. It's sturdy and large. Note that it’s large and can take a while to bring water to a boil if full. When making coffee I don't fill it full because that's a LOT of coffee! I use ordinary coffee filters or even a napkin in the basket to filter the coffee. The bulb at the top is made of glass which means it won't get gray or fatigue from the heat over time and crack. The handle is a double grip design but can still get hot so use a towel or glove if this has been on the flame for a while. It has a recessed bottom so it might not work very well on a flat griddle; it really needs a flame to heat properly.
French Press at Home, Cowboy Coffee at Camp
I own this coffee pot for over 6 years now. I decided on this GSI version as it’s high quality heavier gauge stainless steel and has no plastic parts. We’re using a Bodum stainless steel French press at home and used a smaller one first for camping. What I like on this coffee pot better over the French press is that I can keep it hot over a low simmering flame or reheat the coffee if it should get cold. Note: We’re not using the percolator. I took it out and we’re just boiling the water, add 6 spoons of coffee ground, steer it and bring it close to boil again. After 5 minutes or so most of the coffee grounds will sink to the bottom and it’s ready to serve. Enjoy your Cowboy coffee 🤙🏼
Well made, BUT smaller than I was hoping
This item just arrived, so I haven't used it yet. I was looking for a really big camp coffee pot, and thought this one was bigger than the one I already had. It may be slightly larger because of the flared bottom, but it's not as big as I thought. It is a very well made, sturdy coffee pot and seems like it will stand the test of time. As far as the function goes, it is a standard percolator coffee pot, with a basket on a stem to hold the coffee. I think the flared bottom will work well on my big Coleman camp stove, and will be more stable than my other pot. It will also "capture" the entire flame when the stove it turned up rather than having heat wasted around the sides. My husband wanted to steal it for the wood stove in his shop, but I put the kibosh on that. :)
First thing I pack
Not really, it usually goes on top of the pack, but I take this everywhere. If I'm camping out of the car, or if I'm on a deep excursion to the bwca. This cleans up well, is sturdy, and makes a good amount of coffee to share. I would buy again, and glad I own it.
Beautiful stainless steel pot, makes great coffee
This is a quality stainless steel percolator. It makes really good coffee, so much so that I prefer it to our regular drip pot for home use. It has a nice design with the carrying handle and is very attractive. Note: This was advertised as a 14-cup pot but if you add more than 10 6 oz. cups of water, the level will reach the basket, so the 14 cups might be a stretch. However, this is a substantial-sized pot compared to some other camp percolators.
Love our new percolator
We have used this in our trailer for a few days now and really like it. Coffee tastes great and the pot looks good! All metal so you can use it over a campfire too.
Phenomenal. Better than a Keurig, French press..
Adore my percolator. Bought it for camping. Gave it a test run in the bonfire. Did it on the gas stove. Did on an ELECTRIC STOVE. Did it on one of those small campfire stoves you put together yourself. You know what it makes, every time, all the time? Smooth coffee. I’m buying another for my uncle. Shipping it direct.
Great Camp Coffee
I’m part of a very active Cub Pack and Scout Troop. We have to have our coffee in the mornings! This thing requires no measuring or thought. Put water in pot, put coffee in basket, put on fire. Let it percolate a bit, and boom, Holy Bean Water! It holds heat well and keeps the coffee warm even off the stove. 100% old man approved.
Good quality but poor design
It works well as expected but doesn’t fit on either of our backpacking stoves. The large base should make it stable but doesn’t fit right on our backpacking stoves, making it unsteady. When using in a Coleman camp stove the extra height of the rimmed bottom design makes it higher than desired for the flame to heat it efficiently. If you’re buying one, try it out on the stove you want to use it with first.
Not a 14 cup percolator
This is ABSOLUTELY NOT a 14 cup percolator. Using a measuring cup, 12 cups fills it to the top of the rim until it spills out the spout WITHOUT the strainer, stem, and top installed. This will hold 10 cups max, if that. Totally false advertising. I am returning this item.
