Great winter camping addition

This product is a great way to make winter camping a bit more comfortable. It was easy to use, is sturdy and is a much safer option for in-tent use than the smaller "Little Buddy" option (I bought that one first and returned it for this one). I used it in my 2-person, Big Agnes winter tent. It was overkill for that sized space, but I like it because I had no trouble warming the space while maintaining plenty of ventilation. So far I have only tested with myself and my dog in the tent--it may be a little more difficult to maintain safe spacing with 2 people in the tent.

Driving a tack with a sledge hammer...

The heater works great for large enclosures. If you're in a tent it will run you out! We were in a 6 person tent and had to run the heater on the pilot to be comfortable. The other issue is that the 1lb cannisters don't last very long. We solved that problem by adapting it to run on a 10lb tank. This heater is very well constructed but has a lot of plastic on the inside that can crack if the heater isn't gently handled (I'm on the second one now). With all the caveats, I still rate it as good and better for safety and reliability.

not reliable

These heaters work great, right up until they stop working. I've owned two now, and they both stopped working within a few months. To whoever makes these products, there must be some defect in the sensor that tells this thing its level or with its oxygen sensor causing it to turn off. When they stopped working, I tried using different hoses, different tanks full of gas, put them on a level surface using a level, and they both stopped working within a few seconds. I went so far as to check carbon monoxide and oxygen levels just to make sure the air was good and that was a lot of work just to make sure a heater should work. So yes, 5 star until right up until they decide to no longer work after a few months. I'm so frustrated to have a nice heater that just stops working after a few months.

Good heater but too expensive @REI when purchased

I have no complaints about the heater itself. Seems to work well for the space it's designed to heat. My complaint is that it cost $127 at the time of purchase... for the heater alone. As I was looking for a filter to use with a larger tank, I found this heater for a much lower price. I don't necessarily expect REI to be the absolute cheapest and I realize the full price purchases earn a dividend but this seemed much higher than expected. I returned it to REI and purchased the same heater *with a hose and filter* in the box for $75.

Wonderful!

Very easy to use and reliable. I use it to knock off in the tent before going to bed and before getting up. Makes camping in lower temperatures much more pleasant. I have the smaller version, too, and take it into the campground shower or the shower tent, again to just warm it up a bit before using.

Heats up quickly

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The weather has finally been cool enough for me to put this heater to the test, and it works excellent. It lights with ease and heats up quickly. The heater is small enough to work around easily, yet big enough to warm even a large area like my garage. It operates so quietly you can’t even tell it’s on. It’s a nice portable size, and I can’t wait to use it in my hunting blind this season. This unit will allow me to stay in the woods from daylight until dark even on freezing cold days.

Portable heater

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This things is great and perfect for all kinds of situations. All you need is a propane tank and your set. Once you attach the tank you have heat where you need it and it’s easy to use and to figure out. This is great for those days you go camping and it’s a little chilly or when your working outside or a job site and need some heat to finish up. It’s so small and convenient with manageable temperatures to set it how you like.

Useful portable heater

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Mr. Heater portable Buddy heater is very useful. It’s great for heating small spaces easily. It is easy to use and light weight for carrying with you when camping. I am planning on having it on hand over the winter in case of power outages. It runs on the small propane cylinders and runs about 5 hours on low and a little over 2 hours on high. It has a safety guard and a emergency low oxygen shut off. I would recommend it to anyone for camping or needing emergency temporary heat.

Mr. Heater - Mr. Heater Portable Buddy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Mr. Heater - Mr. Heater Portable Buddy is the perfect size for a medium area. The propane canisters are easy to put in when one runs out. Just like with any heater using propane the higher the temperature the more propane you use. This would be great for use in a building outside or if the power went out in your home. I would highly recommending having this in my emergency plan.
