I purchased these for a fishing/kayaking/hiking/mountain biking/all of the things vacation. The first night, it rained, and i mean, REALLY rained. These were perfect and comfortable no mater how many inches fell (it was a lot.) They repelled the water and stayed dry. After that, they were great for hiking, no chafing or uncomfortable bunching anywhere. Perfect for fishing on the stream without my waders and great for kayaking. These were slightly an impulse buy, but I'm already considering another pair. I got my regular size and they fit great with a bit of room. The only small criticism I have is I wish they had the insert in them so they could be worn for climbing; though I worry that would make them uncomfortable.
Comfortable and Quality
I really wasn't expecting to get these, or the galah green color for that matter, but I tried them on and they were beautiful. The color was great and very flattering and the shorts fit comfortably in the waist (although do have a tie if you need them a little tighter). For size reference, I am 5'8, 140 lbs and got a size medium. I typically am a medium in most shorts like nike shorts and found them to fit similarly. So worth $50.
Quality product but pockets stick out!
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE how these shorts have pockets, but since they are not attached on the bottom, they stick out when you sit down. Quite a bit, too. The fit and length are perfect and I can tell they will last a long time. However, those pockets drive me nuts!
Haven't taken them off all summer
I typically wear a size 2/4 or 26/27. The small shorts fit well with just enough extra space without looking frumpy. In other brands I often wear a medium in pants, so go with the size that matches your numerical size on the chart. These are really, really comfortable. I basically wore them for 4 days straight on a backpacking canoe trip and they were great; they dried quickly, didn't ride up or get bunchy when I was seated for a long time, and the pockets are a nice addition. The only recommendation I'd make is to buy darker color if you're going to wear them hiking or camping. My husband has a light colored pair of the men's version and since the fabric has a bit of texture to it, dirt seems to stick to them so they look pretty dirty after a couple of hours of hiking.
great shorts, run true to size
Many of the reviews I read said these run small so I ordered a size up - large (5'7", 140 lbs and normally wear a medium). Large was way too big and very baggy, should have stuck with a medium. Now I'm contemplating if I should have ordered a size down.

I bought these shorts to go white water rafting. The shorts are super comfy, and dried really fast. Excited to have them for this summer!
Comfortable & Cute!
I've been wanting these shorts for a while and I'm so glad I finally got some. I'm 6'1, 145 lbs and the smalls fit great. They're great for a day on the water - they dry quickly and are really soft/comfortable making them perfect casual day-to-day shorts. Love that they have pockets!
Patagonia shorts
I bought these shorts and like them a lot. They do run small though. I normally wear a size small and they were a bit snug. Also there are no built in panties, so peak-a-boos are possible. Much love for REI!
Summer go to
I bought a pair last year for a river trip and just playing in water. They are super comfortable and cute! Just ordered another pair. Fits true to size. I am 5’5” and 130. Usually wear a size small or 2.
