Perfect Jacket
My boyfriend and I went to Iceland for a few days. We explored and hiked in 20 degree weather. I'd like to mention that we are from Florida and get easily cold; however, I wore a set of thermals and just this jacket on top and I was comfortable. It's not waterproof, so on rainy days or by the waterfalls I did use the north face rain jacket on top of this one. Honestly, it was a great buy and I definitely recommend it. It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for if you're looking for a very lightweight compact and warm jacket! I'm 5 ft and 110 lbs, XS fit me perfectly!
My all time favorite jacket
I love the fit of this jacket , Perfect for anything outdoor or everyday use. Keeps me super warm. Dark plum is beautiful.
Great jacket
Fits like a glove. Very stylish. Light weight, need layers underneath to be toasty. Worth the money
Great Skiing/Snowmobiling Midlayer and Climbing Jacket
I usually use this as a climbing jacket when it's chilly out and I love it for that because it's very breathable and thin and comfy, but also very warm. I recently used it as a mid layer for skiing and snowmobiling in about -10F weather and paired it with a decent base layer and goretex shell, and I was VERY warm the entire time and was very pleasantly surprised at how great of a mid layer this jacket was. I love how thin it is and how much it cuts down on bulk when I use it in the snow with my shell and base layer.
Not worth the money
I liked the jacket a lot when I bought it but for half the price the REI Activator was a clear better choice. The sleeves are so long that it would require a double roll.
Warm but ineffective ventilation
I got this for the Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal. Knew it would be cold there but also expected to be sweating while walking long up-hills. Was sort of disappointed with the ventilation system. Often felt overheated in this jacket when I had a merino wool base layer underneath. Had to take it off often because the tiny holes did nothing even with a trampoline-style pack on. Otherwise it kept me pretty warm at rest and looks pretty stylish enough for wearing in the city.
Perfect mid-layer -- can't wait for winter!
I normally wear all black everything, but the juicy red color is just the right not-your-usual-red. It's 85 degrees in Seattle right now and I am craving winter so I can take this for a proper spin. I'm 5'8" and 130 pounds with DDDs, and this jacket fits perfectly. A lot of mid-layers have necks that come up too high and make me feel claustrophobic -- this neck comes up just the right amount. My only complaint is I wish the zipper was tonal instead of a contrast color.
Love this jacket!
This jacket is much warmer than I expected from reading the description. We had a cold snap in our weather so I tried my new jacket for nordic skate skiing. It was wonderful! Warm and light and required only a light layer underneath so movement was easy and free. It was not soaked on the inside after my workout and kept me warm even though my base layer was sweaty. Very stylish and nice looking. I'm 5.8", 122 pounds and ordered the medium.
Good jacket, but not for really cold days.
I'm still giving this five stars because it does say lightweight but warm. I bought this to replace my apex coat which is not very warm or wind proof, I was surprised how light it was but it kept me just as warm as the apex and did alittle better with the wind. Would be perfect on days 30 or higher. Would be hard to layer unless you got a bigger size, but I do love it, love the style, the colors, I would recommend.
not for me
This just wasn't for me. I don't know if it was the cut or the color but it was particularly unflattering. 2x styles can be challenging and this one didn't quite land in 2x. And i really wanted something with a little more warmth potential than this would have had. I was on the fence between a packable down and this one. So I'll replace this with a thermoball. But the material was lovely and it seemed nicely made.
