Great kayak for the price
Purchased the Elie Strait 140xe and Sound 120xe for my fiancé and myself. Both kayaks strike a perfect balance, for a wide range of paddlers, between recreational and touring kayaks with ample cockpits and storage space, excellent stability, good cruising speed and complete deck rigging. The seats and backrest are easily adjustable and are the most comfortable we've paddled. Both come with lockable bulkhead hatches. By far the best kayaks for the price.
Great recreational kayak with rudder
I purchased this kayak when REI put it on sale (15% off) and it is everything I was hoping it would be. The sleek design slices through the water and the rudder both keeps it going straight in windy conditions and also allows me to turn on the proverbial dime. After using kayaks with rudders on an REI vacation in Belize, I’d been looking for an affordable kayak with a rudder for about 3 years. This one is well worth the wait.
Mediocre
Definitely not a quality kayak, but if it’s on sale, and you’re looking for a sea kayak like feel with amenities (storage compartments, rudder), this could be an affordable option compared to the higher end levels. This wouldn’t hold up for a more extensive rough trip, but for small trips and daily use, this is acceptable. They are challenging to steer and the rudder is absolutely necessary on this boat. Fairly easy to carry despite the location of the seams and the rudder bolts, which will cut up your legs if not careful.
