Why did I wait so long?

I can't believe I ever hiked without trekking poles. A while back I purchased a very economical single trekking pole to see if I would like using it. It helped but honestly the two poles make such a huge difference. The stability and confidence they offer while trekking through the Texas Hill Country makes long hikes with a heavy pack so much more enjoyable. Trails in the hill country are littered with loose limestone and intersect stream after stream. Slippery rocks and steep inclined and declines can really slow you down. I also have a bad knee and for the first time in quite a while I made it through 5 miles without any knee pain. The poles are super light weight so I never felt burdened with them. The straps were also super comfortable. A big improvement from the simple webbing-straps my cheap pole offered. The grips are also really nice and comfortable. My one issue is that they seem a little noisy. With each stride there is a click-click. I'm not sure is this is the case with all poles or if it is the way I use them. I read a review that made mention of a similar concern but their review of MSR Swift quality and durability outweighed any concern I had prior to purchase.

mine are 'noisy' like the previous review

this is a well designed and well built pole and the grips and straps are some of the best I've used. the locking mechanism is low profile and solid. But with every strike on the ground there is a noise and vibration that is annoying. This happens on hard or soft ground and even with rubber tips on or off. For this reason I'm giving only 4 stars and still deciding whether to keep them.
