Ive used a camelback MULE for years. It was durable and comfortable, but had a serious lack of storage space. It was always either that, or get a ful size backpack. Since I picked up my HAWG I've been nothing but happy. It fits great. It has plenty of room for carrying my gear, without being over encumbered. The water bladder is fitted low, so when is filled, ur does not hamper storage, like the MULE did. Overall, very happy
I bought this for a hike up Pikes Peak. It was perfect. Holds a lot of water. The magnetic clip is convenient. And the I actually used the rain cover when it started raining toward the top of the peak. I also mountain bike and feel good about this being as comfortable for bike trips as well.
I had a 2013 hawg i used it for work and needed a new "clean" one for riding. My old pack i used to carry gloves, spare tube, flashlight and a first aid kit as just my basic load. On the new pack i Had to leave out my first aid kit do to the fact it's hard to get anything in or out of my pack including the bladder. I do like the fact the middle outside stretch pocket comes up higher. I use MOLLE type pouches for extra cargo room, they don't seem to attach as good as on my old pack. It would be nice if you incorporatrd some MOLLE straps on you sport packs and made pouches as well although i use military ones from a local surplus store.
I purchased this pack in anticipation of my trip to LOViT MTB trail in Arkansas. I needed plenty of water, room for spare parts and repair equipment, clothing, and snacks. My loaded pack weighed in at around 12 lbs. with 100 oz of water. The whole 6 hours I found it extremely comfortable and the back support system worked phenomenally, letting air circulate while supporting the weight down low. I loved the compartments and easy access to tools/parts. The media pocket up top was a nice place to put phone, keys, wallet, etc. Time will tell how durable this pack is, but based on my short experience I have high hopes.
I bought this CamelBak because I was originally looking for a simple pack, I tried a few on in store and this one just stood out to me because it had a piece that sits on your upper back to ventilate air flow across your back- this was so helpful because I hate the warmth and sweat that occurs when moving around a lot with a backpack on. The pack can hold a lot of water but it sits at the bottom which helps with your center of gravity, and the hip straps allow you to wear it like a backpacking backpack, not resting any weight on your shoulders. I love the magnetic snap for the water tube. Also I just really liked the feeling of the straps on my shoulders. You can fit a laptop in the big zippered section so I use this when I travel to the airport now too! All in all I came for a simpler pack but I'm so glad I spent the little extra cash and got this one!
Hasn't held up for me, with both seams coming out and tears due to the thin fabric in use. The integrated ventilation design has become a real issue, as it becomes a haven for bacteria and this pack requires laundering after every use. Aside from these unfortunate caveats, this would have been my all-time favourite pack, as it holds EVERYTHING i want to carry and more. It is the most comfortable pack i've used to date. It is a shame that durability and the lack of an anti-microbial treatment in the NV foam make this pack the most disappointing Camelbak i have used in the past ten years.
I had a few different packs in the past. I always come back to these. I got this pack as I wanted the ability to carry a few more bits of gear for longer days on the bike. It is organised well and fits great. I’ve raced Enduro events with it on pretty rough terrain and it never moves. the build quality is great and looks just as good as the day I bought it. The little tool roll is great for keeping your stuff together too. One of the main reason for coming back is the lumbar reseviour. It sits perfect on your back gives it a litttle support in the process.
I recently needed a new bag so I decided to look around and I came across the Camelbak brand I looked at the HAWG and I looked at the MULE and end up buying both. This is a quick review of the HAWG, it’s bigger than the MULE by 5 liters I believe. I bought the red color it fits a lot stuff, you can wear it and it doesn’t feel like you have a backpack on at all. The weight is evenly distributed, you can just put a lot of stuff in there, I love it, I get tons of compliments on it and I use it every day
Bought this for the gear capacity and the concept of the LR bladder. Price was right as it was 2018 version. Not sure how well the bladder will drain completely but have not consumed all the water in one ride to find out. Water naturally goes to the bottom of a regular bladder. This one is as wide as 3 "normal" bladders at the bottom. With the water connection up an inch or two, it seems that there could be a struggle to get all of the water out when desired. Just a concern but not a "realized problem" yet. A bit disappointed in the lack of "compartmentalization" for storing items. One large compartment has 3 smaller pouches inside. As a bicycling specific hydration pack, I would have expected to have a specific area designed to hold a pump. A clip to attach a key ring was also not part of the design. Too early to comment on Qualify ad Durability.
I was concerned about some bad reviews which in hindsight, I think are bogus. Nothing is cheap construction and is just going to fall off all by itself. I lost parts from my old Mule due to crashes and that's part of the risk of what we do. If I break a bone or scrape a shin I don't complain to my Maker that he did a bad job. Anyway there's lots of storage that I won't take advantage of except as the weather changes and a place to store a jacket is available. Lot's of water with great flow for longer days in the saddle and the magnet catch is amazing. The magnet pulls the hose to the docking clip when you just let it go. I think the bladder pocket may be somewhat insulated because the water stays cold much longer than my Mule. The best part is that although it's heavier than the Mule packed with the same stuff, it rides lighter. Camelbak is always ahead of the compensation.
