I own several other skis at this length and width and found the mount point to be about 5 cm too far forward. There’s nothing worse than having too much tail behind you at the finish of the turn. On deep days, I had to switch to other skis due to tip dive. In a 188, chord center is at 93.5cm from the tail. Factory line is at 86cm or -7.5cm, but even here the tail feels too long compared with other skis in this category. These skis also practically explode if you hit the slightest rock. Nothing in these to protect the cores. I really wanted to like these skis but the mounting point along with the lack of durability/impact resistance made me push these to the side.
I've had 2 trips to Hokkaido on the106s. They are simply the best skis I have been on. Any slope, any condition they are quick and stable and confidence inspiring. Fresh, firm, chopped up or waist deep, I can't think of anywhere I wouldn't go on them.
These skis are one of my favorites I’ve ever owned and are a great western daily driver. They carve and hold surpisingly well on firm groomers and are even quite “poppy”. They’re also great in soft snow and my choice up ski for up to a foot of fresh snow. I ride these skis 9/10 days even though I’ve got a bunch of other options. I will say, though, that they’ve definitely felt noticibly worn over the season and are significantly softer than a couple of months ago. I would plan on replacing them next season most likely.
The QST 106 is a super reliable daily driver for me. I ski throughout Colorado and Western North America, so to have one ski that can handle anything I throw at it is a priority. The profile and materials allow it to be a fun, responsive ski but damp enough to plow through chunder without getting knocked around too much. I charge hard and expect my skis to do what I ask of them when I ask it. Edge to edge these skis are fairly nibmle, and the balance on them is spot on. I love orange, and honestly, the color and lack of gender-specific graphics are really what drew me to this model. Thank you, Salomon, for giving me that choice. I LOVE knowing that the QST 106 is EXACTLY the same as the Stella with the only difference being top sheet and base color, and a slightly different size range.
I could only afford one pair of skis this season and after a solid few months of riding then they’ve preformed in all conditions very well. They’re great off piste with 106 underfoot and rocker in the tip for deeper powder days. They still have been really fun to rip down on a goner day. My one complaint is the top sheet gets torn up pretty easily, but that doesn’t really have an effect on their riding.
Run these for the end of 2017 season and all of Season 17/18 with Kingpins as my one ski. I'm 173cm (but heavy) and am on the size 174 but having now bought some skinnier touring skis and improved my technique (!) I'd size up for more soft snow carves! Great for European style, resort accessed touring/bootpacking off piste in everything except super-deep, 1 or 2 days per (EU) season powder
I have a pair of these as my everyday backcountry setup with the MTN tech binding mounted on them. I'm 5"11", 180 lbs and went for the 181 cm length. This keeps the setup light and very responsive in tighter and steeper terrain. I am going to get the 188 cm with the SHIFT mounted this season as an all around resort and powder ski. This thing can literally ski anything!
I bought these skis for my first season living in Utah. With a pretty terrible as far as snow goes, I haven't been able to take these out in as much powder as I would have liked. That being said, these skis are AMAZING on groomers, I thought they would be too wide for on piste and tough to ski with, I was wrong.
I bought these skis with Guardian MNC 16 bindings to allow touring capabilities. I use the set up for touring and resort now and the skis are great for both. Great in powder, great on groomers, light weight enough for my "beginner" touring missions too. A wicked all-around ski!
Ride the QST 106 now for 2 Month in any Conditions. My Weight is 88 kg and I´m 179cm tall..so I decide for the 188cm Length with Guardians also for the small Skitour on the evening (500-800 hm). I also owner of the QST92. Because of the extremly good experience with the QST92..I decided to need more , so I bought the 106 also. Well these QST106 is not a hot egde Slalom Carver but it works absolutely well for an Ski of this dimensions in any Condition, on groomers, ice, powder, the family Skiday with small kids in the resort , Carving days and so on. It is easy to ride also on the piste. Never ride an more excellent overall ski that the QST106. To compare with the QST92, the 92 is more playfull, quicker and even more easier to ride and more an on piste ski which I will recommend every "normal" resort/grommer ridesr from beginner to experts who want to have fun. So the QST 106 handels a lot more better on high speed and is more stable AND works also very well were the QST92 is at home. The QST 106 is more for advanced and expert riders in my point of view. Great skis..both of them
