Bag is Great, but Damaged on First Trip
I bought this bag because of its great reviews online. The bag is in fact roomy and you can pack almost all of your items within it, except helmet, for a multiple day ski trip. I would say that the handles could be more padded, although the bad is easy to roll. But the bag is easily damaged -- I bought one via REI to fit my snowboard and one via another site to fit my husband's ski equipment. Both bags returned with ripped fabric that is fairly significant. They both ripped in similar areas as well. The issue appears to be a lack of padding around the internal structure of the bag for the wheels. The plastic rubbed to the point of ripping the fabric. While I get that baggage handlers can be rough, I expect such a bag to make it more than one round-trip before seeing significant damage. I will be returning the bag to REI and making a warranty claim for the other one.
Wheels were definitely worth it
I needed a bag to check in my snowboard and boots on the airplane and contemplated a wheel-less bag since I generally dislike wheelie luggage. But I walk about 1 mile to the bus stop to get to the airport and figured wheels may help out. Boy am I glad I got the wheels.. Once you load everything into this bag, it can get pretty heavy to carry for anything but short distances, even as a strapping young lad. My helmets ended up creating a bump in the center, which concerned me from a breakage standpoint, and also airline acceptability standpoint. So instead I stuffed them into my carry-on backpack and filled my boots/empty voids in the snowboard bag with with socks, thermals, various other clothing, and tools (which typically can't be carried on). Also managed to roll up a spare backpack and squeeze it in there. I even squeezed in several pounds of food on the return flight (could only buy in CA). I think someone else stated they didn't like the fact that the boot compartments were part of the lid, so it was difficult to open. Personally I didn't have any issue with the boots causing access problems once they were already stowed. Everything on the bag is very durable, and the wheels roll well. Technically the 157cm size is a "women's" bag, but as a just-below-average-height male, I ride a 154 cm board so the "men's" bag was much too large and would have ended up being floppy. Overall, I love this bag.
