Great construction and comfort
This jacket is both well made and extremely comfortable. The craftsmanship on it is meticulous (as you would expect for something in this price range. The zipper is a breeze to fasten. And it's warm with a t-shirt under it down to about 15 degrees, at least for me. Other reviews have complained about the lining being inside out and how much trouble that is. I found that to be extremely trivial. This works just fine for me. The extra 10 seconds it takes to turn the sleeves inside out simply aren't that big of an issue. All in all, very satisfied.
This product is almost perfect.
This 3 in 1 jacket is perfect in almost every detail. The only problem for me is, It should equipped with a double slider zipper. Its length make it inconvenient to sit down, and in such occasion a double slider zipper is very helpful. I understand why double slider zipper is not on this jacket, but I still want one, because in my experience, the button will hold the downside slider in a proper position. Then is the design that you need to turn the liner inside out to zip it with the jacket. It is pointless. After all, I will recommend it to a friend, but also advise him to wait for a update version to see if there are any changes on these issues.
I would recommend this coat with a caveat
I found the zipper on the liner to be a bit awkward. The liner turns into a lighter jacket, but the zipper is on the opposite side that men would be used to. Our winter hasn't gotten into full swing, but with the couple of times that it dipped down to warrant use of the coat with the liner, it didn't seem to be as warm as I expected. We will see as the winter goes on how that shakes out. Also, not sure how water proof the outer layer is. I wore it in a light rain and the shoulders on the sweatshirt I was underneath seemed to be slightly damp. Will have to keep an eye out to see whether it is truly waterproof.
Great coat with one bad decision
Some have said the sleeves are a bit long but they are perfect for me. Refreshing to have a coat where the sleeves are actually long enough. I'm 6', 185 lbs and got the large. It fits great. Not sure why the liner has to be turned inside out to zip it into the shell but in making this terrible decision the zipper on the liner when wearing it alone is backwards for a man's coat. Seems very awkward having to operate the zipper left handed. Seems more like a ladies coat and the reason I didn't give it 5 stars. The shell is very wind proof and combined with the liner is fairly warm in 20 and 30 degree temps. My only disappointment was to have an ad pop up for another site four days after it arrived for $80 less.
Solid coat with multiple options
I was glad to find a coat with a removable liner. I went to the store for this on 3 occasions before finally ordering it online. I was kind of surprised the store did not offer to have it shipped to me in my size (XL). As others have stated with this coat, the removable puffer liner must be placed in inside out and when wearing it solo, the zipper is backwards (think of pushing your turn signal lever down to make a right turn or pushing it up to make a left turn). Other than those 2 issues, this coat seems like it will do a ton to keep me warm on the coldest of winter days.
Perfect Parka for snowy days
The great thing about this parka is it's very comfortable and warm. But I would not recommend this in extreme cold weather
NEGLECTED THE LITTLE THINGS
Finally got to use this on my annual Alaska trip. Overall this jacket is good but I feel like TNF made strange decisions or neglected the little thing when designing this jacket. The fact that you have to turn the liner inside out to wear it with the jacket is strange as it make a the zipper on the wrong side for a man. It also makes it inconvenient at best when trying to put the shell on after wearing the liner by itself. Also, the sleeves don't have elastic cuffs and don't hug the wrists at all. Another example of the little things that weren't considered (or maybe they were) that make the difference between average, good and great, something I've always thought TNF was good at. I have the regular thermoball jacket whoch i feel is better made.
Try this product on in store before purchase
I bought this for a new ski jacket. All the reviews said it would be too big and said to order a size down. I'm not a big guy 5'10" @ 170lbs but my shoulders are larger than normal at 44". The jacket fit me well everywhere except the shoulders. The sleeves were the right length. I felt like I had appropriate room around my midsection. My shoulders were just a little bit too tight. Now I'm in the process of returning it. The jacket seemed of excellent quality and seemed warm for the brief amount of time I had it on.
Not so cold on the mountain
Awesome quality, great design, holds up really well in the elements, very cozy and comfortable.
A swing and a miss
First, I have no idea why the liner jacket has to be turned inside out to zip in. This puts the zipper pull on the left side of the jacket when worn alone, and it just feels weird and working the zipper drives me crazy. Second, the sleeves of this jacket are about an inch too long. I'm 5'11", 195 lbs, 44 in chest. The jacket fits great everywhere, and has a very flattering silhouette, but the sleeves cover my hands almost to my knuckles. You either have to be very broad shouldered, or have exceptionally long arms to look good wearing this jacket. Those two things are the biggest problems. I love that the hood is removable, which helps the jacket look more cosmopolitan and "grown up" when I'm not on the slopes. The multiple large pockets are great. The jacket is nice and warm. But the two main things were annoying enough that I returned the jacket.
