Great Jacket for AT Thru Hike 2017
Phil

Received free product
Used this jacket for 6 months during my 2017 AT thru hike. During cold weather, it got used just about every day. It was surprisingly warm and insulated quite well even when it was wet. I wore my rain coat over it several times to block the wind. I used the jacket in 10 deg temps in the Smokey's and I stayed warm. I abused the jacket about every way possible and it's still in good shape. It got drug over rocks, thru trees and brush. It got rained on and it didn't always get washed per the instructions. There's not any rips or tears and while it doesn't look like a new jacket any more, I can't justify replacing it either.

Light weight, warm but......

I have to say, I really love this jacket overall. It’s light and keeps me warm here in oregon. My only complaint and concern is that for the price, I’ve had to return one already because the thread was pulling out and for a $200 dollar jacket that’s not something you expect, especially when I only wear it around town. I haven’t hiked or put this jacket through the ringer at all. I returned the first one and exchanged it for another one come to find out I found another thread pulling out. I’m torn because of the price of this jacket. I’m debating just returning it altogether and going with a different brand.

Family of Fans since 2008

My boys and husband have worn this jacket for the past 10 years. Hubby has 2 blaze orange and they are his go to - both indoors and out. We like the brighter colors and miss the bright orange and brighter yellow. It was helpful when the kids were little and we wanted to see them in the back country. For those complaining about stitching or whatnot, remember that Patagonia will fix them forever. We've had jackets patched multiple times and are fans for the men.

I really want to love it!

Love the way this jacket looks and fits. But the teeth on the pocket zippers seem custom-designed to catch and pull threads on the sleeves. Brushing up gently against a branch will lead to the same thing as well. If the loop remains intact, they can be pulled back through, but I didn't know I was getting into a routine repair situation. This feels like a design flaw, and makes me appreciate the "unsnaggable" Arc'teryx Atom LT that I gave up. As a secondary issue, the front top of the jacket is kinda stiff when zipped all the way up and pokes me somewhat uncomfortably in my throat. These two things detract quite a bit from what is otherwise a terrific jacket.

Picture does not reflect true color

The Sedge Green displayed in the REI photos is inaccurate; It's not lime-bright-ish green. The true color is a darker tone. I was reluctant to buy it online because it looked very bright green in the REI photos. But, other than that, it's a great looking jacket, nice and warm. I highly recommend this jacket.

Would NOT Recommend - Product Quality

I'm not one to leave reviews, but I feel the need to with this one. I'm bummed. I purchased this jacket in August 2022, and it's already falling apart at the stitching (December 2023), just over a year later. I wash as intended and really only wore this jacket a handful of times. It's noticeably falling apart, and for $200+, I was hoping it would hold up for a lifetime - rather than just over 1 year. I was a big fan of both Patagonia and REI, even investing in the REI membership. Unfortunately, the REI warranty period for members being just 1 year (1 winter season) is disappointing, considering the cost of this item. I expected better - so just a heads up!

5 years heavy use - Worth every penny

This jacket is the most incredible piece of clothing I’ve ever owned. I have had this jacket for 5 years now, I’ve worn it over 1000 times, slept in it, hiked through brush, smoked it by a dozen campfires, and worn it snowboarding. This thing has taken jabs by pointy sticks that have brushed right off the jacket like some kind of armor, and slid down snowy mountain sides while snowboarding. To this day it has little to no noticeable wear and tear, I simply cannot believe the build quality of this jacket. At this point this jacket has sentimental value to me! Will be buying one for my dad. Thank you Patagonia!

great jacket but wears out

These are great jackets but I have found that they wear out if not treated carefully. I'm on my third one, and I use it primarily for warmth in camp, when taking breaks hiking, etc. With the previous two, I made the mistake of treating them as jackets for everyday wear; over time, the quilting stitches started to go on both (cosmetic problem only, at least initially), and the zipper wore out on one. I tend to be hard on clothing, and I think making any jacket light and packable involves some compromises on durability. But this fits me better than any of the others that REI stocks (it's not super-slim, and neither am I) and it;s still a great jacket.

New fit is terrible

I have an older Nanopuff pullover and vest, both in size medium and they fit perfectly. I can wear either one over a hooded sweatshirt and not feel restricted nor are the jackets sloppy over minimal base layers. The Nanopuff jacket I just received felt wicked tight, especially through the arms and armpits. The new fit seems to be for skinny folks with little stick arms. I overlayed the new jacket on top of the old pullover and the torso is a good 1” narrower than previous. The armpit area is similarly narrower. For reference I wear a medium in Patagonia (older nanopuffs, flannels, etc.) Disappointed. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Will be returning.
