multiple trips and going strong
We bought 3 of these packs (2 women's and 1 men's) for a one month trip all over Mexico and loved the versatility of them. We traveled by plane, car and bus and these packs worked well for all modes. The included cover worked great when we had to check the bags at the airport and in seconds can be converted back to a wearable pack. The removable daypack was a fantastic added feature. The original purchase was made 2 years ago and I have had my pack on multiple trips since then. Aside from some wear on the outer cover from having checked it a couple of times, the pack is in great shape. I am packing it now for yet another adventure and am STILL pleased with this purchase. I have room for all needed items AND souvenirs.
not true to size
i ordered this backpack to take abroad for a year.. one look at it and i know it is not true to size. i have a backpack that is 48L and appears bigger than this. if you are looking for a true 80 L bag, do not buy
Solid choice for travel.
Price point and versatility makes this a great backpack travel choice. It is 80L total not 80L main +detachable backpack. Recently bought and used for an 11 day winter trip to NY and Italy. Have also used for a few weekend trips. I like that is a true backpack as far a compression, adjustment straps, and quality (also a cheaper alternative to the Osprey travel pack choices). I used mine along with REI and Eagle Creek compression organizers for maximum storage, to keep the pack light, and had room to spare. Didn't have to use the rain pack since it is carry on friendly (I flew Jetblue, Delta, and Virgin America all with strict luggage requirements) and had NO problems with the smaller backpack was zipped off and carried separately. I like the outer mesh side pockets and back zippered pocket on the small backpack for last minute storage. When placing the pack in the bins overhead I used a large carabiner to clip the waist straps together and just put the smaller one in the seat in front of me for later access. I highly recommend this bag, especially for newer travelers who aren't used to backpack traveling.
