Warm, but fabric has flaws
I gave this jacket 3 stars because it is warm, well constructed, and has nice features (such as zippered pockets and a flap over where the zipper hits the chin). I took off two stars because of the outside fabric. I should have listened to my first instinct, which was to return the jacket, but I kept it, figuring REI quality would be superior to other brands. However, the outside fabric attracts wood chips very easily, so my son comes home from school everyday covered in wood chips. Also, over time, the outside fabric has started to snag and is not as soft.
Don’t Stop Believing
I have 2 sons (now 11 & 9) and I’ve bought other coats, but for some (many) reasons I have bought this coat since they were toddlers in XXS to current 10-12. It fits. The boys are hot, but they will wear these coats. We have taken the kids and the coats all over the country and the coats perform, get dirty, and have a hood. Well done REI. These are the coats that don’t get “lost.” (Deep breaths.) Soft fleece, pockets, good design. The wood chips and dirt don’t bother me. It shows me that the kids are having a good time.
Wanted to love this-but not so much!
I purchased this back in January to replace another fleece jacket - my 8 year old son LOVES the soft fleece on jackets. The other reviews are spot on with this - EVERYTHING sticks to it. I have tried picking every leaf particle, wood chip or piece of pine straw off of this jacket and no luck. I tried washing it and no go. Great jacket, comfortable - but cannot use for a kid who plays outside. I should have returned it.
Here is your ten character minimum thanks
I bought two jackets, one galaxy blue and one cabin (red) for my 9 and 11 year old active boys. They are very stylish and hold up well in mid-west fall and spring weather. They repel water and snow nicely, but long term exposure is not advised as they will eventually soak. The pockets are deep and the fleece lining warm. The front pocket is great for keeping their chapstick from getting lost. Kids at their school always compliment these unique jackets. Please keep making this style! Love them!
Wanted to love!
Would’ve loved to keep this but EVERYTHING sticks to it. Wood chips, grass, leaves. My son wore it to school 2 days and not sure why on earth he decided to lay down on the playground but it was like Velcro!!!! It wouldn’t come Off. Had to return. :(
Ditto previous review
I totally agree with the previous review it is right on the mark. The fist time he wore it the entire leaf pile was stuck to the Jacket, after picking off all the leafs the Fleece was pilled up and looks 2 years old! I will be exchanging it for a different product.
Son loves it
My son loves this jacket -- and he is picky and tends to run hot! Usually he takes his jacket off the second he comes indoors. Now I find him wearing it even hours later. He says he's warm on cold and windy days, but it must be breathable enough to be comfortable indoors, too. It's lightweight, snuggly and warm. A great buy for us! We've had the jacket for a couple weeks, so I can't speak to the durability of the outside fabric. So far so good. I would recommend it!
Not exactly
We were hopeful because my son LOVED this jacket...warm, cozy, good deal and seemingly durable, but the fleece is pilling so bad after 2 months of wear. And, yes, it attracts the wood, leaves and everything else from the outdoors. A disappointment on this one.
Great Option for a Growing Boy
My son loves this jacket. Because he’s an 11 year old boy he tears up and outgrows clothing quickly. This jacket is great quality, warm and stylish. When he outgrows it next year his buddy will have a nice jacket too.
Comfortable, well fitted
My son really likes this coat, fit his size well he is smaller 70lb 10yr old bought 10-12. Warm fleeze and flattering color (green) he enjoyed the pockets. Bought on clearance for a good price
