Cute boot but extremely narrow
I ordered my typical size, 10, and could not get my foot into the boot. I typically wear Altras while hiking, but needed something waterproof and more rugged for winter hiking and snowshoeing. I was really hoping these boots were going to fit, but sadly they weren't even close. The foot bed was so narrow, that with a light sock it was a tight squeeze. This left the rest of the boot feeling very big in the heel and around the ankle. The boot is lightweight, attractive styling, looks to be functional with a gusseted tongue and zip up side. If you have a very narrow foot, this is the boot for you. If you are average to wide, steer clear.
Wonderful boots
A lot of $$, but worth it! I bought these to protect my right foot as it heals from three fractures (aside from it being time to retire my last REI pair, purchased in 2000). When I first put these on, I felt like going hiking--with an injured foot! My right foot, with ankle brace, has enough room to live happily in the boot. Nice and snug and supported. Perhaps the only down side is that the very sturdy shoelaces keep untying. I finally figured out why: the knots keep rubbing against the tongue, which eventually undoes them. Solution: bring the shoelaces around the TOP of the upper hooks. The knots stay nice and firm that way.
Silly shoes
They look like boots but that's about it. Like, imagine a boot created by AI. Materials feel super cheap and look super cheap. Inside is roomy but lacks support. And the best (worst) part is how slippery the sole is. They are supposed to be waterproof but I almost slid and cracked my head open on slate, while walking around downtown. Took them back, thank goodness for REI's return policy.
Super comfortable, cute color, clown shoes
It's difficult to tell in the photo but from the top or front it is immediately obvious that the width of the laces and the toe box itself makes the toe box look a lot like clown shoes. While it's not super narrow in the middle, the heel is a bit large as well. I ordered a 9.5 and am typically a 9.5 in boots, hiking and running shoes (sometimes a 10) and a 9 in dress shoes or anything else. The 9.5 was a little long but I think a 9 might have been too short. The entire shoe was huge and much larger than expected. Very sad because I really like the color, they were on sale and affordable, and they are lightweight and suuuuper comfy. One of the most comfortable shoes I've worn. Were it not for the large, bordering on comical design I would keep them and just wear thicker socks.
Need arch support -- otherwise great!
These can't be beat for rugged urban style, the sizing is accurate, and I love the side zipper for convenience. My only complaint is that the insoles provide almost zero arch support. I replaced the factory insoles with some arch support inserts and they're much more comfortable for walking now. It remains to be seen how well the waterproofing will work, but in a light drizzle they were great so far.
