I bought these for a trip to Colorado and they were great. The shoes are lightweight, very comfortable, and I had great traction during our hikes. Traditionally I use mid boots, but during our hikes I never felt like I was missing ankle support. The description says these have a bellows tongue to keep debris out, but the tongue is not connected on the sides like a bellows tongue so some debris got in, but that can easily be taken care of during a quick break.
I was looking for a different shoe to replace my normal 'walkers.' Thought I'd give Merrell a try. Overall, I like this shoe a lot. It is comfortable and wears very well (sole and outer). Two complaints. First, the inside lining in the heel doesn't appear to be very durable - certainly as compared to the sole and outer. The lining completely wore through (see pics) in less than 2 months, averaging 12-14 miles of walking a week. Second, they squeak loudly walking indoors. Not sure if it's my orthotic rubbing or the materials. Very annoying; wore them to work one day it became clear I wouldn't be doing that again. Don't notice it at all outdoors when I'm walking. May be a factor if you're planning on wearing in casual settings. It it wasn't for the inside heel wear, I'd probably give this 5 stars based on the comfort and external durability.
These shoes provide almost no grip on hard wet surfaces like rock, stone, concrete or asphalt. They are fine on dirt, gravel, groomed trails, but if you encounter a rock surface which is wet you should avoid it. I slid down an asphalt access road wearing these shoes. If you visit their site you will see multiple reviews about this.
These shoes aren't safe for any type of wet surfaces, such as large slab rocks, or stone. I have slipped several times on larger rock surfaces that are on the trails and I actually slid down an asphalt access road wearing them. like these shoes for hiking on dry dirt or rocky trails but they aren't safe for wet terrain.
Extremely comfy shoe and great arch support. The size is about 1/2 size bigger than most other brands.
Thank you for sharing your experience!
Very happy with these shoes. I've worn them the last 3 or 4 months for daily 3 to 5 mile walks on a gravel road that gets muddy and has lots of 1 to 2" rocks. I don't feel rocks on the bottom of my feet and these definitely keep my feet supported. Also, it cleans off easily and the sole doesn't hold mud. For me, there's plenty of toe box width. I have not tried it while carrying my heavier pack, but I'm fairly certain they'd be fine for most conditions. I'm a long time Merrell wearer.
Out of the box these shoes needed a two mile walk before they “shaped” to my foot. (Little tight at the bend of the shoe.) From there it was smooth sailing. Super light, super durable. Never worry about traction or performance. They’re like 4-wheel gym shoes. Walked/hiked a ton of trails on Kauai. Not the Andes but worth paying attention at all times. Way to go guys.
I recently purchased a pair of these shoes because I was looking for a lightweight shoe for travel. The weight is listed by Merrell as 9.5 ounces per shoe. The pair that was delivered to me ( Mens size 10) are 11.6 ounces per shoe. Over 20% more!!! Overall, I like the shoes but I find this weight discrepancy deceptive advertising.
We appreciate your feedback. A size 9 is used for weight as it's the median men's size. We hope this helps.
Took them to the gym, they worked. Usually wear Moad 3’s, but I like the eco’s as well. They fit well and were comfortable walking around town.
Thanks for your great feedback!
I got these to wear at the gym. They're great. Nice sturdy shoe. I've had several people ask me about them.
