Great All Around Bike
I haven't seen any reviews so far, so I decided to help. I pre-ordered this bike when I got to Germany and received it mid January. So far I have put about 200 miles on it and couldn't be happier with it . I was looking for an aggressive trail bike that wouldn't be overkill for local xc type trails, but could handle a getaway to some big mountain riding. This bike fits that bill extremely well. The Dual Air Pike is a great asset for climbs and less extreme trails (I use it a lot when riding with my kids), and when you need more travel you just flip the switch back to 150mm and bomb down. There isn't much need to explain the Pike further here. It is as awesome as all the reviews out there say. The DB inline may be the best rear shock I have ever used, and its super customizable and the climb switch is great. The Riot Link works as advertised, and even though there is a 20mm difference between front and rear travel, you do not notice it. It is very well balance. I know 1x11 setups are taking over, but I really love the XT 2x11. Both derailleurs shift super smooth, it fits my riding style well. One of the things I like most is how capable the bike in comparison to how light it is. Most bikes I looked at in this category were averaging 28lbs. Once I went tubeless mine is weighing in right at 26lbs, but still feels every bit as solid as all the other bikes I tested. Weight isn't everything, but it definitely adds to the bike's climbing ability. Overall my impression is this. It climbs AMAZINGLY!!!! It descends superbly. The combination of the components and geo make the bike super snappy and responsive both up and down the trails. You can just flick this thing all over and pick what ever line you may be feeling that day. I love how quiet the bike is, even when you get into really rough terrain. There isn't anything you can't do with it that fits into the trail bike arena. Most importantly, I smiling more and more on every ride.
First ride in, really impressed
Picked up one of these just this past Friday when I snapped the frame on my old war horse mtn bike. I made a leap of faith on it as I wasn't able to even sit on one before ordering it. Luckily it fits me very well and feels really comfortable. I got the medium and I'm 5'11" 31.5" inseam. I live in Colorado and was able to get out on singletrack yesterday. A nice combination of rocks/roots/steps and small 1 foot drops. The bike is very agile and light on its feet. Very easy to throw it around, pick yours lines and place the bike precisely. The fork/shock combo felt well matched, I didn't bottom either out. Climbing is where I was happily surprised. The bike felt great! I didn't lock out the rear shock and it didn't feel like the bike was bobbing at all. I do think a remote lock out for the rear shock would be a nice thing to have. I've never had a drop seat post before and I didn't really play with it. I need to get some more riding time and see what I think. I did get caught out by the wider bars though, I'm not used to them and literally ran my right hand into a rock that was protruding into the trail. That wasn't really very pleasant but I can't blame the bike for it, I just need to be a bit more careful until I'm used to the wider stance the bike has vs my old one. Overall I'm really happy with my purchase, I went tubeless with it immediately, the rims/tires that come with the bike support it, so all you need is valve stems and rim tape. I'll update when I get more miles under my belt.
