Great handling 29er
I was quite surprised at how well this 29er handled. I rode my old 26er hardtail XtC and this bike back to back at lunch local trail and the F-Si did not seemed to handle just as well in the fast twisty stuff. They got the geometry right on this one! Then it was much more comfortable and just plain faster. The parts spec is well chosen with the Reba with remote lockout, Deore 2X cranks(not a fan of 1X on XC race bike), a threaded BB (the new press fit BB SUCK!), and the XT rear derailleur with the clutch. Very nice cable routing under the downtube too. The bike is very quiet and elegantly clean. I got the XL but I could have gotten a large at 6'2" with 36" inseam. But I prefer the roomy cockpit of this XL. Those who what to toss it around should/could go for a size down. However, I have no problem getting the front end up and whipping around switchbacks. The only downside is the weak wheelset. The rims seem okay for someone 150lbs but the hubs are garbage. I'm going to just sell these wheels and get a wider rim with better sealed cartridge bearing hubs.
A steal at half off! :-o
I just got the Alloy 3 (2017), and love it. Saw the discounted price on this older model 3 and thought I'd toss in my recommendation. Great hardtail bike!
