Pushing their limits
I purchased these knowing I would push the limits of what they were designed for. I took these on a snow / ice hike on a popular 4k footer in NH. I wore them for about 11 miles straight on this trip to put them to the test. They held up perfectly. They never came undone, they gripped well on all surfaces. The heel stand was excellent. I felt like I stayed above the snow better than using 25" shoes (5' 10' 175lbs) which is why I went with these 30". They are big though, but not that heavy considering. By the time I was done, they were squeaking a bit in the "SLS" systems straps but I guess to be expected. Easy on, easy off but solid. No regrets.
Great shoe (Men/Womens)
**Responding to an earlier review: Don't worry that it's not on Atlas' site, my husband confirmed with Atlas when doing his research that this is specifially made for REI, which is why they don't list it. Hence why they only show a 10 and 12, no 11. Easy to use binding, once you get the hang of it. Does require some tightening/adjusting every once in a while, but to be expected. My husband bought these and I bought the women's version. They are great middle of the road option. We have done a variety of terrains, flat and vertical to the top of the mountain and down, and they've been great.
Great all around shoes!!
Great performance, great flotation, nice all purpose crampons, comfortable easy to use bindings, heel gripping pegs on the decks, and all for a crazy good price! What's not to love?! I bought this pair of 11 series to replace a set of MSR Lightning Ascent 30" that I was disappointed with. These Atlas 1130's love deep powder and also do quite well on consolidated snow and packed trails. The heel bars are awesome for long steep ascents we have here in the CO mountains, although they do take considerable coaxing to fold them back down. After a painful experience with the MSRs on a long, steep, hard packed down hill with my heels sliding all over the decks and the aggressive full crampon frames cutting through the harder snow and acting like e-brakes on every step, I was so pleased to have a more conventional snowshoe back under my feet. The crampons provide more than ample grip yet still allow some nice slide in your step on downhills, the little pegs on the heel portion of the deck provide a firm anchor to keep your heels planted and along with the exceptional bindings, keep your feet and ankles pointed in the right direction! Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised with these shoes and have no regrets about choosing these (even over the Atlas 1230, Tubbs Mountaineers or MSR Lightnings). So, don't fret about these no longer appearing on the Atlas website for being an older model. They still provide outstanding performance, comfort and durability!!
Why does Atlas not List this product
My wife bought me a set of these snowshoes for Christmas. I'm a newbie, so I really don't have much to say about them. They seem to work okay. However, when I went to the Atlas website, they don't list this product. I never find that to be a good sign...
