Good Work and Hiking Winter Boot

The boot works as well as it looks. I use it for outdoor work and hiking in snow with a load. Make sure to try it on and walk around the store to resolve fit issues - REI provided great help in fitting the boot and I ended up with a larger size than my usual. The insulation will conform to your foot with wear. I like the hook for using gaiters with them and prefer the metal eyelets rather the fabric seen on other boots. Would be 5 stars except for the laces: flat and too short. For a boot of this quality, Northface should have included round, sturdy boot laces. After wearing them the first time, went back to REI to buy real laces for them. Much easier to tie with gloved hands and long enough to double-knot.

Way to narrow/tight fitting at typical sizes

What was TNF thinking when they designed this boot….did they even use designers or test the boot before putting it to market? I had read it was tight so I upsized from my usual 10 ( sometimes its a 10.5) to an 11. I couldn't keep the boot on for more than 10 minutes. It was way too tight, with a normal cotton sock on. I returned it and got an 11.5 which still feels a bit too snug, but may break in ok. The boot does have attractive features and should be great for my needs. I haven't had the chance to use it yet, but figured I should give it a try. If it doesn't end up fitting well, I won't feel guilty of taking advantage of REI return policy as they really shouldn't be selling a boot so poorly sized and not available to try on in local stores….

DO NOT BUY- RUBBER WILL CRACK, RUINING BOOTS

These boots are comfortable but they're horrible quality. I live in the South (where we don't get much snow), and yet wearing these boots a few times a year caused the rubber to crack in half. The tread on the bottom still looks brand new, but the boots are ruined and unwearable. You'll see the "Lifetime Guarantee" in large letters on the description of the boots, but that is a lie- if you read the fine print, North Face only guarantees their footwear for one year, so you're completely out of luck when your like-new boots rip in half a few years down the road. Don't be deceived by TNF's deceitful advertising practices.

Sizing

This review is specifically about sizing. I usually wear a 10USA. After reading reviews from fellow purchasers and OGL I went up a full size to 11. Too big by a substantial margin even with thick socks and a liner sock.went down to 10.5 too big still. Went down to my normal size 10 and now with a normal sock they fit great. Great boots highly recommend but be careful and try them on if you can. If you have a lower volume foot I advise not going up as much as reviews suggest. But these are worth it quality wise. REI Ann Arbor store was great about facilitating my returns at no cost to me and speeding up shipping since winter coming.

DO NOT BUY. Defective material. That's why warranty is 1year

These boots look great, but the material's are defective. The rubber on the toe gets brittle in a short time and cracks. Check the internet. There are hundreds of reviews like this. I just called Northface and was told that the warranty is only 1 year.

Wonderboots

After 2 months of rather heavy use. Amazing, to say the least. The wind chill was close to -30C on the summit of Mt.Jackson - the rest of my body was a bit cold - my feet? Warm and sweating a bit, to be honest. Get these, you wont regret them one bit. And now about the sizing - I had read lots of reviews about the boot running small and was a bit apprehensive about buying these. I have what you technically call small volume feet (tiny feet :| ) and so I got a 8.5 US, which is my running shoe size. It was a bit tight in the beginning but once I had broken them in it was pretty comfy. Note, I wear a Darntough sock, and these are thinner than your usual woolen socks. Now after 2 months they are actually a bit too roomy and I have had to tighten them up really well to stop my feet from moving around when descending a summit.

This is the one

I have tried many name brand boots. From DIEHARD boot from the makers of DIEHARD Batteries to DeWALT boot from the makers of DeWALT tools to CARHARTT boots. These names signify power and endurance. Its what we expect from a pair of boots. But when I tried a pair of the NORTHFACE boots it was more than power and endurance. It is a boot like no other. Its comfortable, warm and reliable in any kind of terrain, snow, mud, or rain. Its not only stylish, but strong. This boot will definately give you the confidence to step outside in any condition. Its worth the money . Trust me its the best boot money can buy. I gurantee it! Try it, you wont be dissapointed.

Best boots I've owned yet

these boots are really really warm. I would recommend a half size bigger than your usual shoe size though. I live on the shore of Lake Erie where our winter season is usually filled with a lot of snow and a lot of days where temperatures go below zero almost the entire season. These boots have kept my feet warm through this terrible winter. water proofing is good too. haven't had a problem with wet feet either with them. Also can be used for snowboard but i don't recommend that. for me at least, the don't go high enough up my leg to work for that. But I also didn't buy these for snowboarding. It was just a bit of a plus.

Didn't Fit

I purchased a pair of men's Chilkat 400 boots after reading the reviews. I ordered a pair that was one full size larger than I wear; upshot; Cost: fair, Shipping: free, Delivery: fast, 'I Can't get my feet in them': priceless. Living in the Colorado Rockies, I needed a new pair of winter boots. I don't design shoes or boots for a living, but in my case, this appears to be more than a size issue. I returned them and bought a pair of comparable Sorrels. There is no selection / discussion on width, and it isn't addressed in the specifications. I would recommend them to a friend, but with a 'size / width' caution.
