Almost not a downhiller's short.
I'm an avid mountain biker looking to move away from wearing a lycra kit on every ride. But over the last year have discovered that rider wear seems to be either lycra xc gear or downhill; with no in between. This short comes close to bridging that gap. It's not as long as most baggies out there, and the material is light and breathable. Pocket placement is nearly spot on; keeping your cell phone and multi-tool tucked away, yet not swaying around with every pedal stroke. However, the shorts did bunch up quite a bit during longer climbs, and tended to snag on the nose of the saddle when shifting your weight around and moving around the bike on corners.
Comfortable and functional
I bought this item over a month ago and I really like it. It is very comfortable; I like that the "diaper" liner is removable. I ride every day about 25 miles and I like having bike clothes that can also be my regular "street" clothes and this one does it very well. I have ridden the outer part with regular underwear on my rides and it works fine. The zippered pocket on the right side bothered me with the cell phone in it but not on the left side. I also tried riding with my cell phone in the upper non-zippered pocket and it was fine as well. I had concern the cell phone might fall out but seems my concern was unfounded. I think it is well designed and well made.
I expect better quality for the cost
These shorts have all the pockets I could hope for when doing all day backcountry rides. The fit is comfortable. The issue is their zippers are junk. With a few days of buying these shorts one of the pocket zippers came apart. I "healed" it but it just keeps coming apart, often during a ride when I just happen to notice my pocket is wide open. I stopped putting things in that pocket for worry that I'll lose things. Then recently the zipper on the other leg pocket did the same thing. Now I have expensive shorts with two worthless pockets. Zoic needs to do some quality checking but I've seen the same issue reported on other sites and it's been a problem for years.
Great shorts, and a pretty "OK" liner
I bought these for tour cycling, and they work pretty well for that purpose. I find them a little tighter than I would like, but they work fine. I also appreciate that they stretch as you pedal, so you don't get any binding as you're riding. Off the bike they don't scream "I AM A CYCLIST" which is nice when you're grabbing supplies in a supermarket. Plenty of pockets to haul your essentials. The down side is the liner, which wears like a cheap set of cycling shorts. You're almost better using normal cycling shorts under these, as they'll actually be comfortable for longer rides. But from my experience, these work really well for cycle touring.
Bad Zippers Again
Great biking shorts but we need the pockets. I waited 5 years from my last pair of Zoic's to buy another. Same problem. Pocket Zippers are bad. On second use, zipper went bad. Started to use the other pocket but it feels the same. Will not be long before it splits. I would not buy these if you like having pockets for phone, keys, wallet. Returning today.
Lining does not provide comfort or suport
I bought these to replace my bike shorts I have had for 3 years which were starting to show some wear in addition to the pad not providing the comfort it had over the years. I saw these bike shorts which looked nicer and had many features I liked. The liner said it was designed to last up to 2 hours and I only ride 1 hour a day. Well, after my first ride with these shorts, I felt a lot of discomfort because the pad is really not supportive enough to provide comfort. So, I guess I will have to get the next level liner which is a bummer since I already paid a good price for these shorts. Not sure I will buy this brand again.
Perfect Shorts and Liner
I recently started mountain biking again and I bought these shorts and liner. I liked that the shorts come in a 9" inseam, I can't stand having shorts hanging over my knees (personal preference). The shorts themselves fit comfortably for me with medium and a 32" waist. They fit closely to the leg which some people may be saying means they are too small for the size but I think it is perfect. The material is super light weight and breathable so having the shorts a bit closer doesn't stop airflow but keeps them from flapping around like loose shorts would. The liner is comfortable, I haven't been on any rides longer than 2 hours so not sure how it holds up on longer rides.
Great design cut short with bad zippers
I thought it was just me but after reading other reviews (after my second pair) I see zipper problems are common. Everything else about these shorts are spot on, especially the pockets, which are many and well designed in just the right places. The chamois is super thick, good for all day rides where ride comfort is more important than the awkward feeling of having a pillow between my legs. Luckily the liner is removable and I can elect to use a lighter pair I already have when I need. If it weren’t for the inferior failing zippers, I’d keep them, but instead I’m returning them for something else.
Butt Pad has a fly!
So many well placed pockets, good styling and the shammy is really nice. I already have this liner, so getting a second one is great for those back to back to back rides where putting on a stinky liner just feels icky. The man shammy is great, it comes with a fly so there is no "kinking hoses" on the side of the trail, doesn't feel like a wet diaper when your having a pint with pals afterwards unless you have too many pints... I find tools, cash, keys, parts; all sorts of things end up in the pockets which are placed so you don't really notice junk rattling around in them.
very well designed
I recently bought a second pair of these because I am mountain biking more frequently. My older pair are comfortable, have held up very well, and easily fit the things I want to stash in my pockets while riding. I keep keys in the secure zippered pockets on the front. The new pair fit just as well and the fabric seems strong and slightly lighter. The inner chamois is very comfortable, and because it is completely separate from the outer shorts, fits snugger and more comfortably than other mountain bike shorts I have tried with the inner chamois shorts attached.
