This is my fourth different pair of Minimus. Initial impressions were very good: * Comfortable * Breathable * Seemingly high quality materials * Great grip for running I immediately had some rubbing on the heel which was annoying, but with some adjustments to my lacing, it ended up being just fine. After owning these for about a month with occasional (and relatively light) use, I could feel something very strange under my feet. I took a look and on both shoes, the same spot started to peel away from the sole of the shoes (see attached photo). I'm hoping this is just a defective batch - I would have otherwise rated these either 4-5 stars.
These are great for their specified purpose. they don't wear down that quickly if you are running primarily on dirt. the rubber is made from a soft, sticky compound which gives great traction on wet roots and rocks, but wears down quickly on pavement or if you try to use these as your daily work shoe. If you know what a minimalist shoe is supposed to be and that is what you want , you will be happy with these. If you need any support or padding at all, look elsewhere. My only complaint is that tongue is more like a big piece of cloth that I have to take the time to fold into the shoe properly for it to be comfortable.
I needed to replace some Merrell minimalist shoes and these had good user ratings. I still have and use my original Merrell Trail Glove shoes that got me into the minimalist style, but the more recent Merrells have been disappointing in quality and durability. I use the NB Minimus for road running, trail running, and a boot camp style workout. I also have a pair of the original NB Minimus shoes which are still in use, but the MT10v3's are an improvement on the originals. I liked the fit of these enough to buy a second pair in case the next iteration of the Minimus is a change for the worse. I did have to go up 1/2 size for fit.
Foot description: Super wide Fit: Super wide - toe bed has a lot of space for your toes to do what they do Finish: Great quality shoe with really comfy interior materials PROS: -Great ground feel. -Great interior material. -Super light. -Water resistant - kept expecting wet feet after running through puddles. Feet never got wet. CONS: -Digs into achilles tendon - other reviewers have noted this as well -Grip - this completely depends on what you use them for. They fell short when bouldering. The little nubs are too flexible and break loose when they fold under pressure. The rubber is soft and absorbs some impact, but this softness allows the grip to break loose during extreme maneuvers, or yah know, just walking on some steep boulder faces. -Not zero drop - this is clearly marketed towards a barefoot crowd, so just take it all the way. I was hoping these would work out for me. The achilles tendon issue and lack of hardcore traction were the deal breakers. Result: Going back to the merrell barefoot trail 3. The tradeoffs with the Merrells include less ground feel, a narrower toe box and not as comfortable of an interior for sockless sport. The benefits include hardcore traction that is a lot tougher to break loose, zero drop and no rubbing on the achilles. Looking forward to really testing the increased traction on the 3rd iteration of the Merrells. Look for a review on those in the near future. Hoping the compound has not changed from the past versions. Will know soon enough.
The New Balance MT110 has been my favorite trail shoe since it first came out years ago and I was very disappointed when the update of that shoe was a complete departure from the original. I gave these a try because they looked like a combination of features from the original MT110 and the old MT10. I have only done a few runs so far, but they seem to be exactly a blend of these two shoes and are the perfect replacement for my old MT110s. The minimus shoes fit my feet well and that is true for this shoe as well. They are snug and secure around the midfoot, but have a wide forefoot. The achilles pad has not bothered me so far. Most importantly they do not have any arch bump. This has been my single biggest fit problem while trying other shoes to replace the MT110. I believe they have less protection than the MT110s, but way more than the original MT10s, and plenty of protection for Forest Park trails. I will be curious to see how durable they are since that was my only problem with the MT110s. It felt great to put these on and immediately feel comfortable and happy on my run. This is a huge relief after being frustrated by so many shoes while trying to replace the MT110s. Hopefully they keep making these shoes despite the trend away from minimal shoes.
I saw others complain about the sole delaminating and fortunately it looks like they fixed their manufacturing issue. I really like the shoes and have only 1 complaint. This is my fourth pair generation now and for some reason the back of the shoe that rests on your Achilles' tendon does not have the same soft fabric Gen 2 had. For me who's had surgery there, it requires socks to cover, but it may not be an issue for you.
I switched to these after the Merrell Trail Gloves changed with the latest model. They are more durable than the trail gloves, and I haven't had any problems with the soles, as other reviewers have mentioned-- just normal tread wear, and I'm on my second pair. Best fit I've ever had with a running shoe. No sliding on downhill, and laces don't come untied. The open tread is very effective in mud, with no clogging.
I've had these for 2 months and don't even wear them daily. The soles are held on by adhesive and began to peel away almost immediately. They are now completely unwearable. Also, if you catch the top of your foot (above your toes) on aything, the fabric tears very easily. I probably have 4 or 5 tears in the front of my shoes. I might also just have floppy feet. It's a shame because they are very comfrtable.
I bought this pair to get ready to replace my older MT10v2 Minimus shoes. I was not happy with the change in materials used for this and the feel of it on my feet, it felt like the MT1010 Minimus shoes which ended up ripping the fabric and creating holes on the sides. I hope they will address some of these issues with the next iteration
don't know where they went wrong, but this shoe is basically a copy of the trail gloves from merrell. harder upper than the gen 2s and bad lacing system that prevents full control of where you want things tight or loose. they dropped the ball on this one, waited a year and a half for nothing...
