Super lightweight and comfy!
I bought this as my casual and warm winter coat. I wanted a puffer coat that wasn't made of down yet was warm enough. So far, so great! I tested it out during the Macy's Day Parade when it was 30 degrees and snowing. I was outside for 3 hours and my body wasn't cold. As for style, its nice and thin unlike most puffer jackets so you don't feel like a marshmallow! Ok so the hood is a little dome-like, but you only put that up when its really cold and wet and you don't care at that point! The real test will be to see if it keeps me warm on the 10 degree winter days.
Warm and light
I wound up returning this item after getting it home and putting the hood up. It's a functional but silly looking hood. Although I loved the length, weight, color, and deep zippered pockets the hood is an important feature that I didn't like.
Beautiful Jacket - Thought it would be warmer
I ordered this jacket online because it said all of the right things... and it looked really cool! I must say, it really is a nice looking jacket... i work in Philly and i get random people telling me they love it ALL THE TIME. That being said, i live and work in the northeast - and not even the coldest part of the northeast - and this jacket falls short. I am sure someone who needs a jacket for 35 degrees and higher would be thrilled with this jacket - but i need warmth. I am vegan, and i was so excited that this jacket could be animal friendly and be warm enough, but it just isnt - especially for the price. I used to own the columbia insulated jacket and that was much warmer - for half the cost. I think this would be a good hiking/skiing jacket - or just a better jacket if you were moving around a lot - because i think it does keep your body heat insulated well when moving/sweating. But when i was standing still in 30 degree weather (for only like 10 minutes) i was extremely cold. I also reccommend a good scarf because if you can get past the medium protection in the core - the neck is still freezing. WEAR THE SCARF! i am not saying don't get this jacket, but if you are looking for something to truly keep you warm while walking around/commuting or standing - this is not it. Maybe i am just always cold - but for $230 bucks, i would say invest in a different sythetic coat!
Good mid-temp coat
This is a good "in between" parka, it keeps me warm down to around 30F, even mid-20s if it's a sunny day. Dipping below 30 in the dark, it was not nearly warm enough. One big issue for me is that the jacket bunches in an odd way around the groin when I'm walking, which is not very flattering. I tried on a size smaller and larger, just to be sure and they all bunched in the same way. I am typically an XS in most outerwear, but have found that TNF tends to run small, so I sized up and it fits great.
My new favorite coat!
I can't praise this coat enough. It is incredibly lightweight and comfortable, stretchy enough to drive in when it's zipped up, yet retains its shape. I walk dogs along the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta, where it can get pretty windy and chilly in the winter. The mid-thigh length, well-fitting hood and convenient zippered pockets keep me warm and looking good. Hardly a day goes by when someone doesn't comment on my coat and ask where I bought it.
I love this coat!
I have the thermoball jacket which I bought a year ago, so I thought I would get the parka when it went on sale. It performs just as good as the jacket. One interesting thing about it is I wear a small in the jacket, but had to size up to a LARGE in the parka. I'll admit to being a little bottom heavy, but usually when I need to size up, a coat will be too large in the shoulders and the sleeves too long. Not in this case. It runs EXTREMELY small. The large fits fine through the shoulders too. Other than that, I love it!
Fits the Bill
I have been looking for a warm/stylish winter coat, and was able to test it out at the St. Patty's parade in Boston. Despite it spitting and hovering right around freezing all day, I was dry and warm. The double zipper is handy for allowing for more room when seated. The navy exterior/teal lining is a great variation on the typical black!
