Training wheels do not fit Co-op childrens bikes
Contacted customer service. They were unaware the training wheels do not fit their childrens bikes. Otherwise customer service was excellent. One star so people read reviews. I didnt and could have saved a lot of time if i had. Contacted Wald. The side braces for the 742 reading wheel fits rear frames up to 3/4". (Sold at REI but doesnt fit) The side braces for the Wald 10252 training wheel will fit frames up to 1.25". The 10252 side braces fit just slightly loose on the 742 frame, but if the axle nuts are kept tight, they will work. (Not sold at REI, but needed for Coop bikes)
Strong training wheels
I have a tall 5-year-old that has a Huffy 20-inch bike. I tried multiple other training wheel brands, but he kept bending them or they would not fit the bike. These fit great and are strong. Another great find by REI!
They do NOT fit REI's Cannondale 20" Children Bike
The side braces do NOT fit on the frame of REI's Cannondale Trail 20 Single-Speed Kids' Bike.
Disappointing.
I bought this training wheel set from REI. It was missing the lug nuts that secure the training wheels to the axle. They are size 3/8 24. (I went to a hardware store thinking it would be an inexpensive part. They are not sold at the hardware store and they cost over $10 for just the nut.) Also, the fork that holds the training wheels to the bike don't have pads. So they scratched up my son's new bike. Finally, I was able to make it work by taking the lug nuts off another bike we had. When my son was riding, the whole apparatus fell apart and my son nearly fell off the bike.
Best! Not for derailers though
Its been hard to find training wheels that are strong. REI has them! No plastic! My daughter is 5ft tall 100lbs for a 7yr old and needed something strong and sturdy. These are thicker, stronger and the tires are rubber not plastic, wheels are metal. Great find! I did call and inquire about a derailer and they do not fit because derailer is in the way. Got her a bmx bike instead :) any bad star is from others not inquiring beforehand or reading reviews otherwise this product is 5 star. I hope this helps everyone!
training wheels
I bought these when my little girl moved up to a 20in frame but still wasn;t getting the balance down. These appeared well made but didn't fit her new bike due to the derailler in the back. I went to return this item and was gooing to cost the same to return as I paid for it and REI wasn't covering the return. Guess i'm eating this purchase
Does not fit the Co-Op 20" kids bike
Does not fit the Co-Op 20" kids bike. You probably need to get to stock the Wald 10252 which fits 1" frame for stabilizer
Thankfully sturdy!
My mom got my son a bike for Christmas and training wheels for it, both from Target. The bike is fine but the training wheels are terrifying death traps - there’s no way they could ever hold up a whole kid! I needed something local so I crossed my fingers buying these - they look similar so I was afraid they were the same thing but they are NOT. These are HEAVY and solid and exactly what we need. Simple assembly and he was off!
The DON'T fit the 20" CO-OP REI brand bike frame!
These look very sturdy and seem like they could be good, however they DO NOT fit the CO-OP REI brand bike frame of their 20" size. I'm going to have to return them. I don't understand why REI would sell these since most people probably buy the CO-OP bikes for their kids. I especially bought these at REI thinking they would fit for sure. Alas.
Learning to bike.
These training wheels replaced existing that were bending out. These are considerably more sturdy plus have a cross-bar for support. Super!
