Awesome Shoe!

I have a job that requires me to be in my feet for at least 8 or more hours a day and these make a great companion while at work. They provide excellent arch support (coming from someone with flat feet) and they are very comfortable and well they look pretty good as far as I'm concerned. Very comfortable to wear around town as well as walking around all day. They look great with jeans and are just all around a good shoe to wear whether you are going to be in a casual environment or out to dinner, and can even be dressed up a bit for a more dressy situation.

Extremely Disappointed

I have owned 4 pairs of Keen Austins over the past 6-7 years. I walk about 3 miles per workday on concrete/pavement. I have also used them as my everyday/runaround shoes. My first 3 pairs of Austins were amazing: 1) Great arch support that lasted roughly 1.5 years each pair. 2) Wide toe box is perfect for my feet. 3) Sturdy construction for the type of abuse I dish out due to my gate. 4) Look and feel good for a long time. Unfortunately my latest (4th) pair have fallen short on the overall quality I have come to expect from Keen. I have owned them for roughly 10 months and this is what I have experienced: 1) 5 months into usage they started to squeak. This is exceptionally annoying and distracting. I can live with squeak because I am a function guy...but I don't like it. 2) The arch support has fallen dramatically in this pair. I feels as though my feet are being ripped apart. I still own pairs 2 and 3 for yard work and they are more comfortable than pair 4. 3) I have also noticed the stitching is giving way much quicker than the other pairs. I thought that maybe since I have owned 3 other pairs of the Austins that maybe it was a fluke. It isn't. I discovered my father-in-law has a pair of Austins and has experienced all 3 issues I am reporting. I suspect they have made changes to their manufacturing/quality control practices and the end result is a lower quality shoe. I am very disappointed. I also have a pair of Keen activity sandals that are roughly 6 years old. I have been a loyal Keen customer. With my latest experience, I was hesitant to give Keen my business again and moved to another manufacturer and have been very pleased with the decision. My father-in-law is looking to do the same. I have written them about my experience and have yet to hear back... I sincerely hope they look at what detrimental changes have been made with this product and correct them.

Complete failure

After about 5 months of light use, the glue holding the rubber soles in place began to fail. The soles then seemed to stretch beyond any ability to be refit to the uppers. JB Weld reattached the soles in the failed spots to a certain extent, but no sooner than were they fixed in one spot, they failed in another. After the fact, I've done a little homework, and found this to be a common problem, with Keen doing little to nothing to make things right with most of the disappointed parties. These shoes are now being made in China, and it really shows. Don't waste your money.

Amazing Shoes

I am on my feet 12 hours a day as a catastrophe adjuster. I am so have fallen arches. This shoe is amazing. My feet feel great at the end of the day. Wide toe box and not narrow like most of the shoes on market today. I like that’s so much I know I will barely wear my other shoes.

Wore the $HEEEEEIT out of the shoes

I think these are some very versatile shoes. Comfy, look good as a casual shoe with or without shorts, also goes well with most pants. I’ve used these in every environment from heavy walking in cities to trail hiking. I have had these for over 2years and 3 months and the only reason I’m getting new ones is that I finally wore through the rubber soles into the foam. A little maintence with waterproofing and some good old fashion shoeshine wax will keep these in tip top shop.

Great, comfortable work shoe.

I get the black ones for work because they are so comfortable for walking and being on my feet for long stretches on hard surfaces. This is my second pair. I'm a fan of Keen shoes and have had several pairs of their low and mid hiking shoes. They have bit too much toe room for hiking, particularly downhill, but these are perfect for work. I don't usually buy shoes online because I like to try them on. But since this was my second pair, and my local REI did not have them in black, I ordered same size online. Not disappointed at all. Just wore them for first time through a 9 hr shift and my feet were very happy. No break-in required.

Great casual shoes, good toe box room

I've had these shoes for almost a year, and am really high on them. I tend to wear them every day, and they're really rugged. I need a lot of room in the toe box because of nerve damage due to old back injuries, and this shoe totally works. The insole fits and supports my medium-high arch well. The brushed leather rapidly acquires "character" anywhere it touches other surfaces, something you either like or not; I found that suede cleaners only remove some of the discoloration ,but the shoe is great with jeans, shorts, and trail pants. I would buy another pair, and I'd also buy an extra pair if Keen would make it in black smooth leather that could accept polish or a leather dressing.

Disappointed

I am disappointed with the quality of the shoes, actually just the left shoe, as the rubber toe is coming apart from the leather (see photo. This happened shortly after I started wearing them, and has increasingly gotten worse. I plan to take them back, and see about exchanging for a new pair, possibly of the same shoes.

Five Stars In My Book!

As an aircraft mechanic I require shoes that are durable, meet uniform standards, comfy for those long nights on the tarmac and non slip soles. As a runner with a wide toe splay I needed a wide toe box. My wife has the woman version of this shoe and assured me I would like them, and I did. They are an excellent comfy shoe for my for my work needs and if you need a wide toe box as I do that conforms to your feet with little to no break in time this is your shoe. The only down side and not really a downside at all, is that the tongue is a little stiff till broken in. Sizing is true to size, I wear and purchased a 9.5 US. I highly recommend this shoe to everyone! I'm going to purchase another pair in grey for casual use.

Disappointed I have to give a bad review.

I’ve bought this shoe 3 times and loved it. Super comfortable and just overall one of the best shoes I’ve ever worn. But, one big problem. With each pair, after about 6 months, the sewing started to come apart in the same spot. Around an inch or 2 behind the big toe. When I asked a clerk at store, they just said that that is what happens to shoes. I’ve been wearing shoes all my life and this is the first time this has happened to me. Really disappointed because I LOVED these shoe. You guys need to get your act together and perhaps change the factory/country where these are made. Quality has been going down.

Time for another pair!

I first saw these on a friend and was jealous. Then I bought my pair. Wore them to work and on long days of site seeing in Europe. Did plenty of light hiking in them. Every once in a while I bought new laces and applied shoe polish to get them looking as good as new. Eventually, they served as my mountain biking and yard work shoes. After 8? years and untold miles. It was time to replace…with a new pair of Austins, of course! Love these shoes! Very versatile, comfortable, and great looking with jeans or khakis.
