Great pack!

I used this for a 2-day, 1-night mountain hike. This says Men's Pack, but as a woman with curves, I can tell you this fits perfect! The lower back straps wrap around and across the abdomen like a soft hug. It didn't pinch, or ride up, or slide down. It stayed perfectly in place. The upper strap didn't fall across the chest midline, but actually went under so it won't squash you unless you are a D-cup or larger. The pack kept everything dry-while other hikers were scrambling for their rain covers, I was ready to go. The numerous pockets aren't overwhelming, they are thoughtfully located including easy to reach side pockets & strap pockets.

Neat vented back, but not practical

The pack seemed like a good summer day pack with the vented back, but it is too bulky for a day hike and does not have enough capacity for a multi-day hike. It would be good for hauling heavy gear for a day (climbing gear, gallons of water, tackle), but lack of external attachment points limits what you can do. I am 6'3" and the torso does not adjust, which meant I could not wear it comfortably when loaded since the hip belt "floated" above my hips and did not carry any weight. I returned it after 2 weeks of day hiking in Aspen and Yosemite which was the trip I bought it for.

Kinda difficult to organize contents.

I bought this pack to replace my REI outlook 40 pack that I have used for about a year! I wanted something with a little more support and that wasn't quite as bulky. This back seemed to take care of that but the problem I ran into was the pockets on this pack are good sized but they have no dividers in them. There is no way to keep your things in there place so you know where everything is all the time, everything is just mixed up at the bottom of the pockets! I returned it before using it because I knew that was going to be really annoying to me to have to dig for things.

Great pack

Used this pack to do some technical slot canyon exploring in Zion....we had to take the packs off many times, sliding them over slickrock and sandstone, and it stood up great; allowed me to carry enough gear and water to stay out two nights. It's comfortable, carried a 2L Camelbak insert (should have bought the 3L). Overall, a great pack, just wish the side mesh pockets had a strap to secure Nalgene bottles better.

Good day/overnight pack

Got this pack to replace the Lowe I purchased on the street in Thailand 10 years ago. This pack looks a bit strange (strange pockets, etc) but after using it a few time I now love it. Material seems a tad more flimsy than I might like, however I'm not too worried about rips since it is an REI after all. I hauled about 20-25lbs in this last weekend and it felt amazing... almost like I wasn't carrying anything.

Not happy with this pack

Purchased this for my 11 year old son for a two night three day hike through the Grand Canyon. Let me just start out by saying there were no straps to attach his sleeping bag on the outside/back of the pack. I had to pack his sleeping bag inside the pack taking up much of the space. The material is not durable. I see a small hole forming after the hike. Would not recommend this to anyone. With his sleeping bag taking up so much space on the inside, I had to pack more in my pack. He complained a lot about the pack being uncomfortable. The clasps came undone quite a few times around his waist (being the most important clasp of them all). In my opinion this pack is not durable, and was afraid at times the clasps would not stay completely closed around his waist, causing for an unsafe pack. What can you do when you are miles from the surface and your pack does not stay put around your waist?

Great weekend pack

I purchased this pack to use as a weekend pack. I used this pack on a 30 mile 2 night trip in the Smokies 2 weeks ago. The weather was unusually cold so I had to pack more than usual. I still thought the pack was a good size for this type trip. It carried well with about 25 lbs. total weight. I was impressed with the overall construction of the pack and I think it was a good buy.
