Best Mat Ever!
I had a Manduka Pro mat but had to return it because it was slick and had no cushion. After reading the reviews, I got this one instead and couldn't be happier! I love that the Fusion is a thick mat. It's comfortable for my knees. You WILL NOT slip on this mat! The natural rubber has amazing grip! People complain about the scent but it doesn't bother me at all cause it'll be gone in no time. Nor do I care about how they say it picks up so much lint. I use it only during my yoga class at the gym, so that isn't a problem for me. Hands down, this is the best mat I've ever used! I just wished the company made it wider and that REI carried the longer length.
Excellent Quality
I chose this yoga mat because it was made in USA and because it is made out of rubber - a renewable resource which is environmentally friendly. These are important features for me. I have been using this very thick and very heavy mat for yoga a minimum of twice a week for 10 months and have had no problems with it whatsoever. It is heavy, and I have had problems finding a tote large enough to transport it to my classes, but I have finally found a tote (at REI) to do so. Everyone compliments me on this yoga mat. It is very expensive, but it will be the only yoga mat I will ever need to buy. I choose quality over quantity. Don't hesitate to choose this one. You won't be sorry, and you'll build strong biceps toting it around!
Great Quality with Minor Trade-offs
I really, really, really like this mat. It is supportive, grippy, and comfy. I have bad knees, I sweat a good bit, and the yoga class is in a studio with hardwoods. The aforementioned features of the mat definitely help mitigate these issues. Others have noted that it picks up lots of fibers and other debris very easily. I wasn't worried about this but I can verify that it is a bit of an issue. Also, because the mat is so grippy--it's a bit hard to clean with the standard wipes provided by the gym. It will require a reusable towel that isn't as susceptible to shredding as those cheap wipes. The mat is a bit bulky, but I don't mind. The bulk and weight are minor concessions for the comfy nature of this mat. I do wish that REI sold other colors besides the blue.
Deteriorates quickly
I've practiced on Jade mats for over five years, so when I needed a new mat I returned to the company for a different product. Opting for this Fusion mat for it's thickness for my bad knees, I thought it would have the same durability. Nope. Within three months of a regular practice of varying yoga styles, it began to deteriorate. Although the mat was comfy--no more doubling up of mats!--I opted to return it.
high quality sticky mat
I finally decided to purchase a high-end yoga mat after years of buying cheap mats that had disappointing grip & cushion. This mat is extremely durable (and thick) and my hands and feet never slip. It's definitely bulkier and heaver than other mats, but I don't consider that a bad thing (but wanted to note it).
Comfy but heavy
I've been using this mat for 90 minute vinyasa sessions three or four times a week for about six months now. The pros: I like the eco-friendly manufacturing and packaging, and the fact that it's made in the USA. It's a very sticky mat and I've never lost my grip no matter how sweaty I get. It's luxurious and very comfortable to use, especially if you have wrist or thumb pain (I do).The cons: But all that comfort comes with a price--at a whopping seven pounds it's very heavy and difficult to manage (inconvenient but worth it). Worse, though, it shows every speck of dirt and dust, and also shows sweat marks. That's frustrating for me because I clean my mat often but it still looks dusty when I roll it out at thebeginning of a practice. It also shows a scuff/wear pattern from my rough heels, so it's not quite as durable as I had hoped. In summary, it's not the "perfect" yoga mat but it's great for people who need extra padding for pain relief. I recommend using a yoga towel with it to prevent premature wear.
I love this yoga mat!
I bought this mat last year, and it still looks new. I usually cover it with a yoga towel to keep it in great shape. The mat is so thick and cushy that it has been a life-saver for my bad wrists. Down dog used to be painful, but using this mat, I don't even need to wear my wrist braces.
Yeah, a [$] yoga mat.
So I ordered my P90X DVDs and then headed out shopping for a few items. I ended up at REI and stared at their yoga section for a while as not only is there a 90 minute yoga session but several other P90X sessions that recommend a mat. I saw the Jade Yoga mat with their minimal packaging that was obviously printed on recycled paper. It declared the mat as the ultimate or the last mat you'll ever buy, something like that. I pulled it out of the bin and couldn't believe how heavy it was. I'm pushing 200 lbs and hate having my spine make direct contact with anything so I thought the heavy padding would be just the ticket. I won't lie, I did gasp when I saw the [$] price tag. Between the thickness of the mat, the 'Made in the USA' label and the low impact rubber used for the mat, this is a put your money where your mouth is kind of purchase. If you complain about big companies shipping jobs overseas and then do all of your shopping at [...], you're part of the problem. If you cringe at deforestation but grab the cheapest mat you can find, you're not helping.OK, so your conscience can rest easy about the purchase, what about your back and feet? I have now used the Jade Yoga mat for a 90 yoga session, a 20 minute ab routine, a 60 minute cardio routine and a 60 minute martial arts routine and I can easily declare this mat as a winner. The flimsy thing my wife bought for her yoga sessions is nothing compared to the Jade mat. It's so comfortable, my daughter actually slept on it last night.
The color!
This is my second fusion mat. I love the perfect thickness and stickiness of this mat. I’ve been regularly practicing yoga for 20+ years and am a teacher—this is by far the best mat I’ve ever used. Heres’s the “but” —I agree with another reviewer that the color is almost a deal breaker. I’ll be purchasing my next fusion mat elsewhere because I can’t stand to see every hair and skin mark on this dark blue mat, and it’s the only color REI stocks. I do recommend this mat for anyone with a serious practice that has joint issues or needs extra cushion. It’s amazing.
Best mat for hot yoga!
I am a long time fan of Jade Yoga mats and enjoyed my Harmony version for many years. A Manduka mat that I purchased did not suit me because it was very slippery...even after doing a salt treatment. The Fusion is grippy from the start and, as my joints age, I REALLY appreciate the extra cushioning this version offers. I've truly met my yoga mat soul mate with this one!
