No questions purchasing used Werner Camano paddle
Purchased a used Werner Camano paddle for $100. Paddle was in great condition, and what a great find. Light in weight, the blue and green fiberglass blades coordinate well with my Eddyline Sitka. Can’t get over the paddling performance of this paddle. After paddling all day, my arms are no longer tired. Never gave a higher end paddle a second thought, now I’m a believer in lightweight paddles. The carbon shaft mated with fiberglass blades is an awesome paddle. Can only imagine what a full carbon fiber paddle feels and paddles like, although I’m not a fan as there are limited color choices for the carbon fiber blades.
OUTSTANDING
I love this paddle. I started out with a heavy, cheap Al paddle. I have had three shoulder surgeries, and after an hour my shoulders would be killing me. The Werner Camano is so lightweight I can paddle with it for five hours no problem. The blade does seem a little delicate, so I wouldn't use it for whacking rocks. The ferrule fits very tightly with no wiggle. The release button is even with the shaft. Lots of adjustment in 15 degree steps. The shaft has a slight texture so it won't slip when wet, but it will irritate your hands without gloves after an hour or two. If I broke it, I would buy another in an instant.
You get what you pay for - a lot!
Let me first say that I don't own a phenomenal kayak. In fact, this paddle costs nearly as much as my boat did (and more than my first boat!) But it is absolutely, 100% worth the money. It weighs almost nothing, I can go around paddling it for hours. It's also very powerful - the first time I took it out I thought I was pushing off solid ground. I had to check that I wasn't hitting the bottom of the lake! It does actually increase my kayaking speed. Fantastic paddle, well worth the money.
Lightweight kayak paddle
INVEST! INVEST! INVEST! This paddle is much lighter than the other options and your arms are not going to get exhausted. It shifts to several different positions allowing to adjust to your needs, has a carbon shaft. It also disconnects and comes apparent in two with one easy button. I use it with my Wilderness Pungo 120 Kayak and selected the 230 length. I’m 5’5”, my boyfriend is 5’11 & we both use the same length. Your paddle is based on your kayak NOT the height of you (that’s only with a canoe)! We both love it.
so far, well worth the money
I only got out with it once before the weather got too cold, but FWIW, I'm a believer. Over several hours on the water, I just wasn't conscious of the weight. The adjustable feather angle turned out useful too--I'd thought that, for my style of paddling, 0° would be the thing, but it turned out that 15° was best. Nice to have options. Notwithstanding the light weight, the blade and shaft were totally stiff when I had to use the paddle to push against something. I think I can see what people mean when they say that it's better to spend on the paddle and save on the kayak. (My kayak, btw, is a 10' Old Town Trip.)
Getchya Some
Just used this paddle for the first time today. It is the first kayak paddle I have ever owned. The REI representative recommended paying less on my kayak and more on a paddle because that's what really matters. I completely agree now. This thing is so light and smooth in the water. The adjustable ferrule is great for feathering, which I'm still getting used to after using rental paddles for a long time. Plus I'm a tall guy (6'6") so the 240 cm is perfect in length and it's finally nice to have a paddle that's long enough for me. I can't wait to use this thing more. Great that it breaks down too.
Excellent Upgrade for Non-Beginners
Have used the Camano for 5 years after beginning with cheaper, heavier paddles and fearing we overspent on the upgrade. That was 5 years ago. Difference was instantly noticeable as our routine paddles were easier and faster; we extended our yak trips on the water, had more energy with these light and thoughtfully designed paddles. Love how fast they assemble, intuitive design for adjustment. Worried the blades would break but they've held up for 5 years of push-offs and rock scrapes. If you're kayaking more than a few weekends a year or planning longer trips, make the investment. You'll enjoy the water more.
It's so light and so pretty
The paddle just came in the mail and I was so surprised by how light it is. I couldn't believe it. It's super easy to get the two pieces together and to change the angle if you so choose. There are no knobs sticking out so it feels like a one piece. I broke my humerus at the neck of the shoulder 12 weeks ago and I am so happy to have ordered this paddle! Even I will be able to make it on the lake now!!!! Going this weekend. Update: Just finished a 55 minute paddle after my physical therapy. The paddle is exactly what others are saying. Super light, slices nicely in the water. I was able to paddle for 55 minutes. May not seem like much, but you don't know what my poor arm has been through.
Wonderfully light
I am a big fan of this paddle. I have used it on sloughs, reservoirs, slow moving rivers and lakes. It's light and comfortable. And the red blades glow rather attractively in sunlight. I have a relatively inexpensive Riot flat water canoe and spent roughly 40% of the cost of the kayak on the paddle. It was the right decision. I have paddled with slightly heavier paddles and the difference is very large. Highly recommended. This past weekend I kayaked into a tide and wind. It was hard going, but the paddle did not let me down. It works well even if you have dig deep in to the water.
A good paddle is essential
This is my third paddle. The first came as a package. The I upgraded to aqua bound expedition, cabon paddle (no longer made). And now this paddle. Each paddle has made kayaking more enjoyable. I bought the camano earlier this week at the Tyson's corner rei and used it for the first time today. All I can say is wow! Higher average speed than with the aqua bound (measured on GPS) with less effort. This paddle is light. Pulls through the water without any flutter. I felt like I could paddle all day! The adjustable feather is a great feature. The day started calm so I started with a 45 degree feather, and as the winds picked up, changed the 60. Remember. When buying a kayak, put as much thought and research into the paddle as you do for the kayak. Demo a few.
