Love my Mad

I love my Mad River Adventure 14. It is quite heavy to load (75lb dry), but with a bed extender and some ingenuity, I've got a system down. Tote wheels are necessary to haul up my steep driveway from the garage... I purchased a couple throw and go kayaks, but find myself snagging the canoe for comfort and ease in the water. It's a sweet hybrid and I can keep up with the yackers by myself. Granted it's a good workout but the tracking is fanominal and I can swing the rig with ease and navigate tight spots and over shallow shoals with ease. I snagged a foam deck mat and kneel in front of the back seat to change up the paddling position. The seats are comfy and folks are jealous 😏. My only concern is low water with sharp shoals as the Rubbermaid can only take so much. Otherwise it's a tank. It's one of my favorite things and hope to have many, many more years with the dog, family, and river. It can tote a crew of needed or myself and gear comfortably.

Best fishing canoe ever

I have used this canoe for both recreational and fishing, particularly the Texas bay system, including Matagorda Bay and Barroom bay and the Intracoastal Waterway. Lots of storage area. Nice built in rod holders. And well thought out back rests--believe me that makes a difference after a long day of paddling and fishing. I would recommend this canoe to anyone, beginner or advanced.

Nice family canoe

I was looking for a canoe that would work well for fishing alone but also for taking the family (wife and 2 year old) on lake and river trips. I was very nervous about purchasing one without trying it out and thought that I would have to try more than a few canoes before finding one that would work for me solo (at 6'2, 300 lbs). While the rear seat obviously didn't work solo, the middle seat was perfect. The canoe sat almost flat and felt very stable. With my wife in the front and 2 year old in the middle it was just as stable, as long as my wife was not paddling (she likes to lean over to get her paddle in the water). I'm very happy with this canoe and looking forward to getting lots of use from it.

I love this canoe

It is as rugged as they come, I've hit and scraped this boat on about every river rock in north Georgia with nothing more to show for it than (lots) of cosmetic scratches. It's versatile. I've been fishing in calm lakes to canoeing down Class I-III rapids with no problems. I've heard some folks say this is a good canoe for calm rivers but stay out of the rapids. Baloney, this canoe loves moderate whitewater. The key is, if you are going solo, right before you get to anything tricky is get your knees on the floor right behind the middle seat. This way you can lower your center of gravity if needed, you can oar with more power and you can even maneuver the boat slightly with your legs. I took the Mad River down Etowah Falls (Class IV) smooth as silk using this technique. And the boat is comfortable, the seats are the reason my wife let me get this boat, and they delivered as promised. I've taken the whole family down the Metro Hooch, me in back, the wife up front and my two little girls in the middle. I've gone on long trips with buddies, and long trips with a dog, and ever mammal that has been in the canoe for any length of time loves it (and usually ends up thinking of getting one). If it sank today – I'd go out and buy the same boat tomorrow.

Best canoe I've been in

This is the best canoe I have been in. I have no complaints about it. It can hold two adults, a child and a dog all at once, or I can take it out by myself with no trouble. It goes through the water very fast, and handles very well. I have had it in a still water lake, a big river, and a fast moving stream with small rapids. The seats are very comfortable, which makes all the difference in a day trip. It's not too heavy, and the type of handles are nice. I've had this canoe for almost a year, and I am very happy with it. I would definitely recommend it!

Solid Rec Boat

I bought this boat second hand that was lightly used on a lake. Since then I have paddled about 30 miles of the French Broad River in NC. My daughter absolutely loved being on the water with me. I actually paddled several miles standing up in this boat and its crazy how stable this thing is. It's heavy and awkward for one person to handle alone but my 10 year old daughter did manage to help haul it about 30 feet up the concrete boat ramp. Plenty of space for camping gear if you plan it properly. Only negative I found is getting this thing moved on land. I'm accustomed to throwing a boat on my shoulder or over my head and I managed to do this only once with this canoe. It about wore me out just getting it onto my shoulders. Weight isn't the issue it's just it's design which isn't bad if two people are grabbing handles and walking with it. Typical of a canoe this thing catches the wind easily but tracks incredibly well and turns smoothly. Love this canoe great flat water boat and handles the shoals and swift water (not tried in rapids) incredibly well

Love my Mad River!!

My husband, 8 year daughter, and 2 year old son and I Just recently used it paddling across a reservoir to a hot springs. It was perfect! The seats with the back rest are so comfortable. Plenty of extra room for a dry sac or fishing gear. Not tippy like I thought it might be..especially with a 2 and 8 year old on board. Planning on taking it on a slow moving river next. Have already recommended this canoe to friends and family. Very happy with my purchase!

Mad River - Easy Lake

We've used the Mad River canoe several times in the month that we've had it. It propels and steers easily. It's easy to load and unload from the rack on my pickup. The backrests are AWESOME!! My girlfriend and I (and puppy-dog too) can comfortably do a 3-4 hour canoe trip thanks to the backrests. The Mad River was an excellent purchase.

Fun, comfy canoe.

We have the 16 foot version and it is a blast. Your back will not hurt either since there is an awesome back rest. You can even attach a trolling motor and take it fishing with your buddy! A fun boat. My husband said it even handled the rapids well:-O

It was a great choice.

It isn't the HEAVIEST canoe, but it's closer to heavy than light. Combined with the fact that it has a middle seat instead of a yoke, it's not an easy canoe to portage. Takes 2 guys, carrying comfortable handle at back and front. So... it's not ideal for the Boundary Waters. But then, it wasn't meant to be a BWCA canoe. That said... I did take to the BWCA... and it perfomed fine. Tracked fine thru the wind, is nice and stable when loaded down. I'll take it there again. Now, for other pursuits... taking a day trip down a river... fishing on a lake... exploring a lake... with my kids... IT HAS BEEN GREAT, GREAT, GREAT! I've used it a lot this summer... and I really like how if floats and handles. It has higher "secondary stability" than "initial stability"; which, I like, especially when power boat waves hit. It is even good to float alone, either with weight in the front to keep the nose down, or by sitting in the middle seat. And the curved in hull (tumblehome) actually does make paddling easy; you hold the paddle closer to you. Without a long of space in front of the front paddler, s/he can get spashed a bit. I have a small truck to carry it in, so the 14' size is nice.. I'd only get the 16' version if I really wanted the extra space to haul stuff; otherwise, why store the xtra 2 feet? I'm very happy with it. It has been a good choice for me and my 2 boys. And yes, the backrests and cup holders are nice. Have you ever tried to fish while your Gatorade and spare tackle are rolling about the bottom of the canoe? Nah. Just put 'em in the cup holders!
