I really wanted to love these boots. They were comfortable from the get go. Problem is, I was adjusting the laces about 10 minutes into my first hike with them, and one of the webbing loops came off. That's just really bad stitching quality right there. This would have been the third pair of Merrell's I've bought. Going back to my Oboz.
So I read some reviews and despite being a true size 9, i decided to order a size 9.5. I was a little disappointed when I received these because it was obvious they were a half size too big. I contemplated returning these but decided to give them a try. Even though they were a little loose at first, I quickly got use to them and I am quite happy with them now. I use thicker socks. Only issue so far is rocks getting inside.
I bought these boots because 1) they were on sale and 2) they were recommended to me. I’m glad I did. I live on the east coast so mainly do east coast trails which means trail running shoes for the most part, but I wanted boots for other things. These arrived, I took them out, and I slipped them on. I never needed to break them in. I haven’t had any issues with wear and tear and I have been wearing them, for sure. I wear a size 10. I got a size 10, and they fit fine for everyday wearing or pairing with a thicker sock and locking my heel down (tying.) I have recommended this style to several friends. Would I rely on them for more difficult trails or west coast trails? Probably not, but if you know the U.S. and the trails, you’ll be fine with them on the east coast.
This is a beautiful boot, however, the brand must run small as I needed a whole size up from what I normally wear.
This is my 3rd pair of Moab 3 hiking boots, so obviously, I’m a fan. I like the fit. I really like the grip of the sole. I’m not crazy about the flimsy insole but, 2 out of 3 works for me. I would recommend.
Look great. Great fit. Love the Vibram soles. I have three other brands of hiking boots, but the Merrell boots are my favorite.
