Besides being the ugliest shoe I've likely ever owned, the structure is less than supportive and functional for me. The shoe itself appears incredibly wide due to the projecting sole of the entire shoe and the toe box is very wide as well. There is little to no arch support and the toe box feels totally flat, no support. I would not recommend this shoe for a more narrow foot, someone who desires padding (vs a flat shoe feel) and arch support.
Merrell switched from a Vibram sole to something else, maybe their own and quality plummeted. It’s not just this shoe. Within 70 miles the sole was worn flat and by 100 worn into the cushioning. Far less than their models with Vibram soles. This was my fourth pair.
Love that these are waterproof, but I did add an insert for more padding and arch support
I wear running shoes for walking and hoped to use these for walking, but they made me feel unstable. The soles, especially the heels, stick out beyond the upper part of the shoe. This probably provides stability when running but it made me feel clumsy. They also run long. My normal size is 8.5, but since other reviews said to size up, I did. The 9 fit like an 8.5. Did not wear outside, so don’t know how waterproof they are.
I bought the purple version of this shoe for a trip to Japan where it ended up being very wet half the time. I am happy to say they passed the rain test as well as a solid 2 week comfort test of massive daily walking. HOWEVER, know that try run both small and wide. I had to order a 1/2 size bigger to be the correct size. I have narrow feet so they were super uncomfortable during the test-at-home phase. I would certainly get blisters due to the wide toe box. So with an addition of Dr. Scholls triple comfort insoles, plus two more layers of very thin insoles (after removing the original Merrell insole). Then it was perfect. It took much experimenting to get the right combo of insoles to make them fit properly. But if you have a wide foot, they might be just right for you as-is. Love the purple top with light aqua sole.
I bought a half size up. I took them the next day for a birding tour in Costa Rica. Were perfect keeping my feet comfortable and dry.
Thank you for your rating.
After 2 months of light use, the attachment of the sole to the toe box started to loosen on one shoe.
Great shoes i use them for work , i work as a server at a Diner, arched soles helped alot
