Speedgoat 5!

Well made, nice lug pattern, good fit, I'm not sold on the upper heal cup/ support as there's a crease that could wearout quickly. The insoles seem to be a tad sturdier but still as with all trail runners their junk. I don't knowcwhy these companies charge a small fortune and skimp on the insole quality. Lastly, one thing I definitely don't like is the position of the shoelace trap. It's set appx 3/4" away from the top of the tongue and it's really irratating when you untie the shoe it should have been set at thd next lower lace crossing.

Narrow Toe box in Speedgoat 5 & 6

It's unfortunate that Hoka's shoes seem to be getting more and more narrow in the toe box. I had the Speedgoat 4 which were fine, then bought these 5's and you can see in the picture how much they narrowed the toe box. Tried on the 6 and still narrow. I ended up with Topo's, their toe box has stayed wide and are much more comfortable. It's sad because Hoka was known for their wide toe box which made them stand out.

ultimate trail shoe

Been through several sets of these and they wear predictably. They wear out faster than other competing brands but the ride on the way to them wearing out fully (for me 450-500 miles when the foam starts to noticeably lose loft and compliance) is well worth it. Grip on tread is far better than pretty much any other brand of shoe I have jogged in and they're almost grippy enough to be considered an approach shoe, which are normally way stiffer. I spend as much time as I can in the Smoky mountains where traction on wet rocks and stream crossings is a nice feature to have. Get them understanding they're going to wear faster than other brands but that's way cheaper insurance than a visit to any ER for a rolled or twisted ankle from a slip out in the woods.

I like these Hokas

My 1st pair of Hokas and so far, I'm a believer. A super comfortable fit for me. I need a fairly wide toe box which these provide and the heel support is good. The thick foam does get some getting used to, but at least for me, I don't find that my feet "rock" in them.

Best for long hikes

After using Speedgoat 5 last year, I once again needed another pair. After going through the reviews of 5 vs. 6, I decided to go for another pair. Feet doesn't hurt even after hours of walking. Very comfy!
