Do not submerge?
13L compression dry bag was the perfect size for the Kelty Cosmoc 20, but found it odd that the dry bag says "do not submerge"... must be more water resistant than waterproof?
Holds up in brutal conditions
This is a great product for just about any sport that involves any sort of water. This spends most of the winter on my snowmobile keeping backup layers dry, and has held up really well. These can't get wet extra layers are essential in the backcountry, but I never have to worry about that with this bag. In the summer this transitions onto my bike and can take the wear and tear of being strapped on externally. I had an older version of these bags, but the new one is easier to use and more streamlined. The compression feature is well worth the (minimal) additional weight as it takes up way less space and gives you more options to strap the bags onto other things.
Motocamp recommended
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great quality product I own about 20 of them for myself and the family. When loading my moto bags these turn 7 days of soft gear into the pack size of 3 days. If your limited with space on your bike these are a game changer along with figuring out what can pack down in a regular stuff sack vs what should be compression bag My only gripe isn’t a big deal But the clips are a pain to flip around if they get twisted, it doesn’t effect the function AT ALL the bag still works as intended if the straps twisted it just bugs me and I have to use pliers to flip it around, again not a big deal just a minor thing
Great dry bag, but still prefer a purge valve
Does everything you need it to do. Great build. 70d fabric is tough. Very much waterproof (did not test submersion, which isn't recommended to begin with). The 13L fit my 20 degree down bag (barely). I was able to compress it down to a respectable size. The air purges automatically through the end of bag (eVent fabric) when it is being compressed. You can technically push the air out without using the compression straps, but it's rather awkward to do so. The four compression straps make it easy to make your way around the bag for even compression. I appreciate the PFC-free materials. I do still ultimately prefer a purge valve on my dry bags. No fault to the bag-- just my personal preference.
Great bag, works well!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this bag recently, and first tried it out in the opposite way it was supposed to be used, in that I put a wet swimsuit and towel in it after a pool session, and the outside of the bag (and everything the bag touch) stayed dry! I used it again this past weekend to pack my sleeping bag and pillow, and both fit just fine and fluffed right back up when I took them out. The thing I like most about this dry bag is that two of the straps now have clips on them, which makes it a lot easier to use than the version of this bag I got 10+ years ago. I am much more likely to use this newer version now that I have it, as it's super easy to use, and seems to work really well in terms of keeping water in/out.
important note - overall good
Overall it’s a good bag BUT it will not do well if the bottom (the air permeable section) is in constant/frequent contact with water. The rest of the pack is standard dry bag and keeps water out but the bottom will absorb water over time. I had it in my kayak where there was an inch or two of water coming in and out and it soaked all the way through the pack bottom into my gear two days in row. So, as long as you don’t have standing water or heavy heavy rain it’s great, if not, go with valve version.
One month backpacking in New Zealand
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Spent a month backpacking through New Zealand, and with all the rain, this compression dry bag was perfect for my sleeping bag! Took it through multiple days of non-stop rain and held up well. Ended up buying two! Strapped it right outside my back. Would highly recommend to anyone!
Durable and User Friendly
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Light water resistant, seal decent, and assembly simple. Only challenging aspect was folding seal (more rigid than expected) when bag not filled to capacity- stuck out at sides making top uneven. Overall, highly functional and great for compressing sleeping bag and clothes!
Tested and passed
I posted a review when I received the bag in April. Now i have field tests to pass along. The buckles are very well designed and held up well with hiking trails, constant open and closing. The only thing i see that can be improved is the bottom band needs a clip loop or carabiner spot so it can be solely held in one spot. I hike and clip it to the outside of my pack and noticed after five hikes (10miles each) the bag loop was coming apart from sliding back and fourth on my pack as I hike. It has not came apart but may if I continued to carry it that way. Now i stuff it inside my pack to prevent damage. The sack has not failed in the dry storage performance. Nothing to improve there. The quality has outperformed some other brands i have used in the past. Thank you to Sea to Summit for making gear that works.
Great compression dry bag
13L is the perfect size for my 20 degree down sleeping bag. It’s critical to keep down dry and having the compression straps turn a full size down bag into the size of a small basketball which frees up lots of space in my backpack for other items. I have an older version of this bag that still works well but the new quick release buckles on this model make it easier to use. Note that you do need to be patient for the eVent to work. It’s a dry bag so water can’t get in but air can escape with compression out of the eVent fabric. Pro tip: roll the top closed once and add pressure to get out a lot of the air, then add two more rolls and clip closed. Pull the bottom over the top and using constant pressure keep cinching the straps alternating sides for and even compression. Another quality piece of gear by Sea to Summit. Two thumbs up.
