[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Here's my over all feeling on the BD Momentum shoes: Pros: Comfortable fit after short break-in period Great performance on slabs and small footholds Secure, ergonomic velcro closure Durable rubber Affordable and beginner-friendly Cons: Lacks stickiness out of the box, a bit slippery to start Not ideal for overhangs Sizing runs large so size down 1 whole size
Comfortable.. for a climbing shoe! I was shocked how good they felt right away. Of course, this made me wonder about the performance. For me, the stiff, chunky build is more suited to a chiller day, gym or outdoor, even though they're fairly sticky. They seem like they'll take a fair amount of abuse (see chunky), and the upper is soft, somewhat breathable, and the closure is solid.
The Black Diamond Momentum climbing shoes are great beginner shoes. I wear a street size 10 with narrow feet and the European size 42 was a tad bit big for me with bare feet. Wearing them with socks did the trick though I would prefer to go barefoot. Speaking of wearing these without socks, I did find the heels to be a bit irritating so try them on and see how they feel for you. The soles are neutral and not overly aggressive, and they provide secure footing and though not incredibly “sticky”. Also, walking around the climbing gym in these shoes isn’t terrible with the soft flex midsole for all day comfort. The midfoot Velcro straps allow for two different directions to focus on tightening and securing your midfoot in the way you like it. For those that like to go to the climbing gym and rent out shoes often or generally don’t like rental shoes, I would recommend getting these. 1 star was deducted because I did not feel comfortable wearing these without socks.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Initial impression was a nice comfortable fit, although they did seem to fit a bit big compared to other brands (i wear a 41.5 in La Sportiva and it’s a tight fit). The construction of the velcro system makes it easy to slip on and off as well as really crank down on the mid foot for a secure feeling on the wall. Toe rubber has held up nicely and performs pretty good on slab and more technical overhanging problems. Grip has not been an issue so far, pretty much performs as expected for a flat comfortable shoe. Very comfortable even after long days outside and in the gym!! Great shoe option for someone looking for a well-rounded and good performing shoe on all terrain.
For starters, the fit is a little tricky, but once you get the right fit these shoes are quality without compromising any technical features. I have a more pair of technical shoes, so with these as a general approach shoe, I sized up one size to be able to have all day comfort whether I'm at the gym or using them in the wild. The grip is standard and quality as well. The shoe itself has a really nice mesh top for breathability but I will be curious to see how they handle rock scuffs over time. I really dig the velcro straps for ease and tightness adjustment although between that and the mesh top you do get a little bit more movement in the shoe but it doesn't seem to compromise the climb overall. Great shoe for beginners to intermediate climbers needing something more mellow at a good price. The two pull tabs in the back vs one is definitely nice to help get your foot in at the right angle right off the go. Sweet color selections too!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Black Diamond Momentum climbing shoes are super comfortable and make for a great introduction to climbing footwear. The breathability and soft upper materials were really nice, especially for longer sessions at the gym. The rubber seems fairly sticky and thick enough to last with my somewhat sloppy footwork. (I used to climb a lot but took a hiatus and my skills are definitely not what they were) However, the sizing threw me off—I had to size down 1.5 sizes from my street shoes, whereas I usually only go down one size. (I wear a 10 iand usually a 9 in climbing shoes but had to trade for 8.5s) Interestingly, I saw other reviews suggesting they run small, but in my case they felt too big, especially in the heel, which had a bit too much volume for a secure fit. I might try the women’s version next time for a better fit. That said, for a beginner-friendly shoe with great comfort and ease of use, they’re a solid choice.
I found these shoes to be pretty uncomfortable. Compared to some I've owned in the past, these felt really big for the size and did not fit great. They are the same size as my other pairs, but fit very loosely and do not hug my feet like I wish they would.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] 4 out of 5 stars because it satisfied everything I needed and was looking for out of a climbing shoe, however, the fit could’ve been tighter around the heel cup and toes. I am a street shoe size 10.5 and a size 42 fit great! I would recommend this shoe for beginners or anyone who is looking for a less aggressive, all-around shoe. I am eager to see how the rubber holds up to regular use. Black Diamond gave me this free product to try.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the fitment of the shoe. I have wider feet and having tried other brands of shoes I've felt how narrow and tight the sides of my feet are. I definitely recommend getting sized up for the EU sizing as it is a better guide for fitment than US sizing. I went with a size EU 42/US 9 for my shoe and I typically wear a US 9.5 because of my wider feet. As for the sole of the shoe, it was stiff in the toes where it needs to be and flexable in the arch when doing some moves. As a beginner myself, having tried rental shoes for some time and feeling how much longer I can wear these shoes as compared to other brands as made climbing a much more enjoyable activity to do. I do want to let people reading my review know that I received a pair for free to test and write a review on. I've tried other shoes from different brands and I want to say that this shoe is the most comfortable for me and others with wider feet
The Black Diamond momentum shoes are comfortable for long days at the gym. I wore these shoes for long bouldering training sessions and they required very little break in. The liners are comfortable and the neutral foot position allows you to walk between problems without too much pain or awkwardness. A great training shoe or beginner shoe.
