A lot of the features of this boot are nice: the sole has great traction, the waterproofing is great, the boot keeps your feet warm, and sizing is good. That said, there are a few things that make it hard to wear this boot for an extended period. First is that the toe box is too narrow and made my forefoot feel cramped. Second is the padding around the ankle. For me, there was way too much padding at the top of the boot, and I couldn't figure out why they had so much. The excessive padding made it difficult to get the laces tightened properly. Because of that, it never felt like my foot fit securely in the boot. I also noticed a lot of rubbing between my heel and the back of the boot, which has me worried about blisters (or just putting holes in my socks) for longer hikes.
This is my third Salomon hiking boot and what I expect as far as quality, comfort and performance. I have used these on a few shorter hikes. The break in phase is pretty quick and the comfort has improved with each wear. The soles are really comfortable and grip well and there is a nice flex vs stability feel to them. They are a slight improvement from my past Salomon boots. My cons are that they are hot and the fit gets a little snug the longer they are on as my feet swell. That being said I would recommend these boots.
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. My honest review is that these Salomon Hikers are great! I was able to take them out on some local trails to test and was extremely impressed. Firstly the boots fit great. I have high arches and the lacing system allows me to dial in fit. The boots are well cushioned for miles of comfort, which is very important to me in a hiking boot/shoe. The mid height is good for a blend of comfort and support, while not being too bulky. While hiking the Contagrip lugs provided great grip and felt stable on dirt, rock, and while scrambling. Additionally you get best in class waterproofing with the Gortex liner, my feet stayed dry while splashing in a nearby creek. These boots will be great for summer hikes and most likely snowshoeing in moderately deep snow. The mid height allows for support with a small pack and gives confidence that you wont turn an ankle rock hopping. Cons - I found the boots ran hot, my feet were toasty in the sun.
These Solomon boots are great books that can handle miles and fairly technical terrain. Surprisingly light weight, I took them for hikes in the North Georgia mountains in dry and post rain conditions. My only wish is that the toe box extended further down the outside of the boot to suit the more technical trails
The first thing you notice is how light they feel when you pick them up. Normally hiking shoes have a tendency to be bulky and a heavy. While these are light they are also very well made. The boot style requires you to lace up all the eyelets for it to fit correctly so you probably have to make some adjustments if you can't do this. The sole is cushioned well, and the fit is true to size - not too big or too small, so order them to the size you need.
I took the Salomon X Ultra 5 Mid GORE-TEX boots out for a 5-mile hike around Lookout Mountain this past weekend, and they exceeded expectations in every way. Right out of the box, they were impressively comfortable—no break-in needed. The fit was secure without being too tight, and the cushioning handled rocky and uneven terrain with ease. My feet felt supported the entire way, and I noticed significantly less fatigue compared to other hiking boots I’ve worn. One of the biggest wins for me was the combination of ankle and arch support. I’m recovering from a high-ankle sprain and still managing some plantar fasciitis, and I was able to finish the full hike with very minimal flare-up. The mid-cut design gave just the right amount of stability around the ankle, while the arch support helped reduce strain on my heel and arch. These boots are very easy to put on and they lace-up quickly! The GORE-TEX lining lives up to the hype. We had to cross a few muddy sections and some slick, wet rocks, and these boots kept my feet completely dry while remaining surprisingly lightweight. They really nailed the balance between waterproof protection and breathable performance. What really sets them apart, though, is their versatility. The design is sleek and modern enough that I actually wore them to the office on a rainy Monday morning. They didn’t look out of place at all—stylish, functional, and practical. If you're looking for a waterproof hiking boot that performs well on the trail but can also handle your daily commute in wet weather, the Salomon X Ultra 5 Mid GORE-TEX is a great choice. Would absolutely recommend.
Very comfortable and lightweight. Great grip and support on trails, especially around my ankles. Feet stayed dry in wet conditions. I did have to do a half size smaller than my tennis shoes, so maybe keep that in mind before buying.
I have used the extra wide boots for Mount Toubkal (Atlas Mountains, Morocco) in Winter conditions in March and just finished the National 3 Peaks this weekend in April. Boots are light, comfortable with a good pair of hiking socks and had no pain on by soles. Previous boots I would get the odd blister but these fit really well and mould after a few usages. Highly recommend them and I have been converted to the Salomon brand. I have the Yorkshire 3 peaks in a few weeks so will test them in more softer boddy terrain and see the performance.
Just unpacked, cut off labels, put on my feet and walked a couple hundred feet out side. Bent down to retire and the eyelet on my left boot popped out. Now I have spent 1 hour on the phone with 2 different agents and I'm waiting to hear if they will accept as a warrantee claim. Checked on line and they are all out of my size. These are my third or Forth pair of Salomon Boots different models. The last pair got holes in them on the top of the boot. However, I wear them for work every day. I like the fit and would like to continue to buy. Hopefully latest problem is not a common problem with the new model X Ultra 5 Mid Wide Gore-tex.

A solidly built hiking boot with a clear attention to detail and comfort. During my first hike there was great grip on the terrain, solid support for my arch, and plenty of padding and cushioning for a comfortable hike. Build quality seems high and the boot feels durable. I would be surprised if the boots didn't last for >100 miles.
